Poll question: DUers, choose my new chair! (dial-up warning)
Need a real chair for my studio, and it must "go" with the red desk below. I've narrowed the field to two candidates. So ya'll help me decide. :hi:

The desk

The chair choices

Skruvsta

Beta

1. Definitely the second.
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 03:11 AM by Spider Jerusalem
The first one looks rather too much like something that sprang from the mind of a set designer for a bad 1960's science fiction movie. The more angular, hard-edged and industrial look of the second chair (all that exposed chrome especially) better compliments the desk, in my opinion.

4. I agree. The first one is awfully comfortable,
but I think it's a bit "much" for such a streamlined desk, and it would take up a lot more space, too. The second one is exactly like Call Me Wesley's and though he's pretty happy with his Beta, the leather on that model is stretched so tight that it feels stiff to me.

I suppose, like a new pair of leather shoes, the Beta's leather would soften to accommodate one's behind?

9. Yes, the leather SHOULD stretch and conform to your shape with use...
it might help some if you rub it down with neat's-foot oil, actually (which you can order online if you can't find it anywhere else, although if there are any bootmakers or saddler's shops in your area they may have it).

I'll see if I can find it online in Switzerland; if not, I'll ask my mom to send some.

2. My dear Heidi!
I voted for your Beta chair, my dear gf!

The other one looks very nice, but for me, it would be a chair to sit in and relax.......

I also don't think it would be very practical at your desk!

So, there you have it...

I'm still up, since I'm still jazzed over the Oscars.

So, is this your new studio? The one you just finished building?

It looks very nice indeed!

Maybe one sweet day, I might step through that door to see it for myself...

:loveya:

6. Stylistically, I'm inclined toward Beta,
but the first chair felt _so_ comfy when I sat in it.

My studio isn't nearly as tidy as the photo reflects. I'll post a new photo this week when I've cleaned off my desk.

Nice to see you, sweetie. I missed the Academy Awards. It's a _beautiful_ morning here!

As for your question about the leather stretching......yes, I believe it will.

And besides, you don't want to be too comfortable when you're working!

You must suffer for your art, right?

43. You see now, my experience is different...
every artist i've ever known never used a desk, they used a bench, or layout table; as a teenager i used to 'do' photography in what used to be called The Stucco Factory here in town http://www.newsreview.com/sacramento/Content?oid=oid%3A34786 but it seemed i was forever standing in my darkroom so

hubby seldom sits, but when he does he uses a stool at one of his bench's...though has a grouping of chairs with arm rests round a table across the room where he'll sit and look at works from a distance with others, or by himself so again...

whatever floats that boat i would think, though a chair that is easy to maintain, whatever that is from whichever part of the world to include china

Reminded me of what Lucy said when she and Ethel each bought a side of beef for their new walk-in freezer, not realizing how big a side of beef is, and they were afraid of what Ricky and Fred were gonna do:

"You don't suppose they'd believe a cow wandered in here and fell apart, do you?"

80. It depends on how long you're going to spend sitting there...
If it's going to be for extended periods, you'll want the back support. I'd go for the stool if you're going to be getting up and down and moving around a lot. On my job, I spent extended periods sitting at my desk and had a great chair with a comfortable back and wheels, so I could both lean back comfortably and could scoot around, too. I rarely had reason to ever get up...:D

i like the look of that much better than the beta.

and btw -- i work with furniture for a living -- i wouldn't put anything on the leather for any reason.

leather products like neat's can be great for items like ball gloves -- but they can ruin finished leather like whats on those chairs.

77. Definitely Beta.
Scruvsta would dwarf that beautiful desk.
Also Beta looks as if it might be better for your back.
:hi:

78. The Skruvsta is gonna ruin your back - burn that POS.
Get the other one.

Chairs are not an item to buy on "looks" - they are to bought on healthiness and comfort.

79. Did you consider this one?

I just set up an art table for my daughter, got all the stuff at IKEA. This stool is surprisingly comfortable, but I guess it would have to be so Grampa could ride that old tractor around all day. That's what it's called. Traktor.

I learned the hard way not to plunk myself down on it heedlessly.

81. I have Traktor in black,
but I mainly use it when I'm sitting to do detail work. I agree that it's pretty comfy but I think I need more lower back support when I'm sitting at the desk for longer periods (like when I'm DUing). I know exactly what you mean about plunking down on it heedlessly. I have a hard-wood floor in my studio, and Traktor goes aflyin' across it waaaaaaaaay too easily.

Did you get your daughter the child's easel at IKEA? I was thinking about sending one to my three-year-old nephew in Oklahoma but wasn't sure how stable it is. (My nephew is a one-man tornado, according to my brother.)

83. That's not what I meant
See the bump in the front there? I plopped myself right down on it, and I had to walk a little funny for a few minutes.

84. OUCH.
Sorry that happened to you. Call Me Wesley keeps his "party parts" out of my studio, so he hopefully won't suffer the same fate at the hands of Traktor. :scared:
