123 Pound Cheeseburger Served At Restaurant - Price is $379.00

<snip>

CLEARFIELD, Pa. -- A Pennsylvania restaurant thinks it has a winner. A Guinness World Record winner, that is.

Chefs at the Clearfield eatery said they've created the world's largest hamburger, all ready to order right off the menu.

Weighing in at 123 pounds, this giant burger features an 80-pound beef patty, a 30-pound bun, 12 tomatoes and 160 slices of cheese. Denny's Beer Barrel Pub also throws on a pound each of lettuce, ketchup, mustard and mayo -- and up to five onions.

The menu price for the Beer Barrel Main Event Charity Burger comes to $379.

The pub plans to submit paperwork to Guinness World Records this week.

The owner, Denny Leigey, said he came up with the idea of the giant burger through an "evolution of burgers."

"Starting with a 1/4 pound in 1977 and a friendly race with another eatery in Clearfield," he said. "1991 began the larger burgers a 2 pound and a 3 pound in 1993."

And, he said, the rest is history.

1. This does pose serious logistical problems
And not "how do you get your mouth around it?" Be real. You bring a hundred friends and a machete, cut it up and eat it with forks.

No, what I want to know is how you cook such a thing without turning the outer three inches of meat into a cinder.

7. that would take a mighty big microwave...
i worked at a place that had one of the original commercial "radar ranges" it was fairly big by today's standards, but that thing sure wouldn't fit inside it.

6. it may be on the menu- but how far in advance do you have to order it?
i'd imagine that an 80lb. beef patty takes awhile to flame-broil.

11. Been There
Didn't order the big one though. ;)

Great place to remember to stop whenever you're doing a long distance drive from or to the east coast, as it's right off Interstate 80, and a good distance to stop for lunch after leaving NYC (about 4 and a half hours).

Worth it just to get one of the more traditionally large burgers. Even the 15 pound one is a sight to see and enough to feed your whole car.
