I used the word "groovy" in an email here at work.
The recipients didn't understand what it meant.

My God, I'm old. :-(

well, just a groovy word. I've long thought it needs to be brought back into general circulation.

11. Totally radical. Like, gag me with a spoon.
Oops. Am I showing my age?

I know what groovy means. I don't think it's an age barrier. I think it's a lack of brain cells barrier!

16. At work a 20 something guy said "That's groovy."
I told him I hadn't heard that in years and yes I'm old enough to be his grandparent. I still feel like I'm in my 30s though.

18. No, you're ancient, dude.
Slow down you're movin' too fast
You got to make the moment last
Just kickin’ down the cobble stones
Lookin’ for fun and feelin’ groovy

Hello lamp post
What-cha knowin’
I’ve come to watch your flowers growin’
Ain’t-cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in Doo-doo
Feelin’ Groovy

Got no deeds to do
No promises to keep
I’m dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep
Let the morning time drop all it’s petals on me
Life I love you
All is groovy

:P

19. Kudos terrya!
I personally am on a relentless crusade to re-introduce the phrase "I'm hip" into pop culture...an admittedly uphill battle, which so far has inexplicably not caught on. :(

21. I used grok once. I then had to explain it.
Such is the state of American education. No one studies civics or old slang. And our country suffers for the lack of both. Not as much for the latter, of couse.

24. Well, of COURSE no-one studies old slang.
Why would they? It is, by its very nature, transitory. Some colloquialisms enter the language; some are forgotten. It's a product of its own time and place.

If I were to say something like "I know this flash cove, bit of a Corinthian really, always sporting his blunt about town to draw the doxies...none of your blowsy bobtails, either, but real Cyprians" would you know what I meant? Probably not...but if I said "One of my homies is a real player, always flashing his roll to get the honeys...no hood rats, either, only real dimes" it might make more sense (they both mean the same thing; one is London, circa 1820, the other is urban America, early 21st century).

25. The study of old slang brings it's own rewards.
Your self-indulgent post, for example.
