I live in the southwest of ALberta Canada. ANyone close? I'll drive up to three hours.

Any ideas? Let's get the ball rolling.

1. Scene at the border
U.S. Immigration: "Reason for visiting America?"

You: "To attend a meeting of committed, passionate, left-wing progressives dedicated to overthrowing the criminal, unelected regime of George W. Bush."

U.S. Immigration: "OK, bud, body cavity search for you. Against the wall while we remove the side panels from your car."

Perhaps this gathering needs to take place in Canada:

Canada Customs: "Reason for visiting Canada?"

Us: "To attend a meeting of committed, passionate, left-wing progressives dedicated to overthrowing the criminal, unelected regime of George W. Bush."

Canada Customs: "Enjoy your stay, and here, have a beer." (tosses a loonie)

3. There haven't been any Democrats in Idaho since I left.
But maybe there are two or three in Montana.

4. Not a gathering, but ...
... if you're looking for like-minded types within three hours, head down to Missoula. It's like Santa Cruz without the ocean, but with more lesbians (not that there's anything wrong with that, etc.).

Check the Missoula Independent online (missoulanews.com) for calendar listings, which often include political-leaning events. It's also a great place for nightlife, microbrews, and tax-free shopping.

Missoula delivered double-digit percentages for Nader in 2000 -- in an overwhelmingly Republican state.

6. Can we wait till late spring?
Would love to talk to someone who isn't a GOP co-dependent but can't go anywhere till sure of good weather.

I know a great retired teacher near Butte who is a rabid progressive too. He isn't on-line but your guys would get a kick outta him. I should stop and pick him up on the way.

Missoula sounds lovely. Haven't been in decades. Probably wouldn't know the place. I live three hours from the nearest bookstore, so any meet-up would be a major trip for me. You guys all dog freindely? Where I go, the 90 pound hound follows.

Anybody been to Seely Lake lately? How badly developed is it? Used to camp there and at Salmon Lake often back in 70's and early 80's before the clan went to the southwest for too long. Miss the mountains, as I am here in the eastern part of the Big Sky.

8. We could do a late spring gathering in Polebridge, MT.....
....on the west side of Glacier. We could use the Hostel- dog friendly- bunks $15.00 per person. The Saloon has great food and reasonable prices.....and it's in the amazing North Fork Valley.

If you have a Montana map with a Glacier Park inset look on the west side of the park about 22 miles south of the Canadian border. Also look for Bowman Lake....Polebridge is below (west) Bowman Lake and just outside the park.

16. It's probably not on too many maps because there aren't ....
...too many people up there. Also, there is no electricity in town but the hostel does have an internet connection.

18. Well, there are gaslights...
....and just enough battery power from generators to take care of the bare necessities. It's a great place...lack of electricity keeps the Republican tourists away.

15. About 60 miles
The North Fork Road can be accessed from Columbia Falls year round and from the Glacier/Apgar entrance in the summer.

20. Waterton might work.
We've got folk in Edmonton, the Kootenays, Calgary, Montana and you HEy HEy, so Waterton's probably the most central, that or Deathbridge.
