The Importance of Paying Attention
I'm in line at the local subway, and the lady in front of me is yapping away incessantly on her mobile phone. The gal making her sandwich asks, in a heavily accented voice, "Cheese?"

"No cheese," the mobile phone lady says, waving a hand dismissively and never bothering to look at her.

The gal puts cheese on her sandwich. I get the impression that English was not her first language. "More cheese?"

"No cheese."

Another layer of cheese is applied. "More cheese?"

"No cheese."

A third layer of cheese is applied. "More cheese?"

Ms. Mobile Phone does not hear this final query, however, and proceeds aimlessly in a direction generally towards the cash register.

Hmm.

I thought about alerting her to the fact that she now has three layers of cheddar on her no-cheese sandwich, but I felt strongly that wisdom of this nature is best imparted through experience, not lecture. Besides, I just wanted to see the look on her face when she bit into it.

:D

3. I don't think they've done society any good
They've made us more social, and as a consequence we are more anti-social.

2. Self-important hubris leads to this kind of thing...
...what's worse, is that when Ms. Mobile Phone notices the cheese, it will be the "sandwich artist's" fault...or rather, Ms. Mobile Phone will blame the woman behind the counter.

4. Yep
I wish people could see their true sources of pain, suffering, annoyance. It's more than just Zomby's fault, you know.

7. Yep - that was my first reaction
She's gonna to her friends and piss and moan about the stupid moron making the sandwich and will never even consider that it might have been her own inablity to show the sandwich maker some respect by getting off the g--amn cell phone while interacting with him.

I always make sure I'm not on the phone when I'm ready to check out somewhere, or order, or otherwise interact with people. Hell, when I'm with friends, I won't even answer my call phone unless I've already told them that I'm expecting a call from a specific person and that I will take that call when it comes.

People use cell phones so rudely, it makes me angry.

5. Great, I love it!
Let her eat her *&%$^#%$#^*! cellphone if she doesn't have the &^%$&courtesy to stop yacking long enough to pay attention. I hope she IS lactose intolerant! It'll teach her a valuable lesson.

8. They charged her for it too
"More cheese" is 79 cents each. Not that she was looking when she signed her credit card receipt.
