The Friday Night YouTube Classic Rock Concert!
There's a fine lineup tonight, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

...Except for those who have posted here saying classic rock is irrelevant- you people can't come. You have to stay home and babysit the kids. And don't think you can get away with anything- the liquor cabinet is locked, and all the bottles have been marked. And don't think you're gonna smoke any weed- we're gonna check your eyes when we get home. You have a responsibility to the kids, after all!

On with the show!

10. Alas- Frank died WAY too young
I recently completed my Zappa discography. Now I just have to sit down and listen to everything. It may take a while- if my count is correct there are 66 works.

18. Depends on how you count it...
According to Zappa.com, there's 83, but that includes things like the Old Masters sets, and both the original volumes and collected volumes of things like LSO, Shut Up... and Joe's Garage. And both versions of the MOFO set, etc. The real total probably ends up in the 70s.

29. Zappa recorded like four lifetimes' worth of music.
Really. His accumulated library trumps even the most hardcore musicians. Save for maybe Miles Davis.

His wife, Gail Zappa was interviewed in the LA Times recently and she said that there's enough material in the Zappa vaults that you could release a new live or studio album a year for the next 100 years. :wow:

20. I feel I should point out that's the one and only Mike Keneally on guitar in that clip.
He's the one playing all the main guitar parts, as well as the original Jimmy Page solo (which is doubled by the horns...he taught it to them at Frank's request). Mike is probably right behind Frank Zappa and Todd Rundgren as one of my favorite musicians of all time. Creative and innovative, and unlike anybody before or since. And he's a hell of a nice guy.

21. Possibly
I'm still pretty much at the top of my music list. It takes time to browse and find good videos- there's a lot of badly distorted junk out there! That's why I invited others to post.

14. ride a painted pony let the spinning wheel turn
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccPz9amDQKQ

What goes up must come down
Spinnin' wheel got to go 'round
Talkin' 'bout your troubles it's a cryin' sin
Ride a painted pony let the spinnin' wheel spin

You got no money and you got no home
Spinnin' wheel all alone
Talkin' 'bout your troubles and you never learn
Ride a painted pony let the spinnin' wheel turn

Did you find the directing sign on the
Straight and narrow highway
Would you mind a reflecting sign
Just let it shine within your mind
And show you the colors that are real

Someone is waiting just for you
Spinnin' wheel, spinnin' true

24. 40 years in the business and still fairly obscure...
From his website:

RICHARD THOMPSON: Named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists
of all-time and the recent recipient of both an Ivor Novello Award for Songwriting and the
2006 BBC Lifetime Achievement Award, the iconic British folk rock legend is one of the world's most critically acclaimed and prolific songwriters. His work is admired and recorded by such artists as Bonnie Raitt, David Byrne and Elvis Costello. From his teenage years as a founding member of the 1960's pioneering group Fairport Convention to duo work with his then-wife, Linda Thompson, and over 20 years as a solo artist, to scoring Werner Hertzog's 2005 documentary 'Grizzly Man', Richard Thompson's astounding body of work includes over 40 albums of lyrical wit anchored by such a singular acoustic and electric guitar delivery that Newsweek recently announced, 'like all genuine art, it satisfies completely.'

25. Reminds me of another great but obscure artist
Laura Nyro. She has an entire career of writing hit songs for others, and she has an incredible voice, but nobody seems to know who she is.

Some people just don't get the accolades they deserve.

The world of pop music is full of brilliant artists that no one's ever heard of....and sadly, the radio mostly broadcasts crap.
