Posting from Paris - Ask me anything!!
Edited on Sat Apr-07-07 08:18 AM by GoneOffShore
Though I'm going out to lunch right now. And won't be back for awhile. (Added on edit) And we've got WiFi in the apartment we're renting. So I can post pictures.

Pictures from yesterday are at the bottom of the Please Remove thread - no this is not a cheap ploy to get you to post there.

5. Yes, the food!!! (more photos)
Last night, The amazing Plank o' Pork and some nice sauvignon blanc. A squash soup, with chorizo and crouton and creme fraiche served with a huge terrine of soup and then poured over the bits in the bowl. Beef cheeks in red wine with potatoes and carrots and snow peas - melt in your mouth delightful. Blue cheese - not Roquefort with a candied prune and sesame seeds. Strawberry panna cotta. Some red wine, some white wine and a bottle of 1988 Champagne - Andre Beaufort - Rosé Grand Cru - Doux that was amazing. There were 9 of us and we were downstairs in a private room - well, semi private because people from upstairs kept coming down to use the WC, but that was OK.

8. What time does it get dark there at this time of the year?
When I was there the first time, I recall that there was still some light after 9pm. It was amazing!

Are there more non-smoking establishments than when you were there last time? (I'm hoping that this is the case.) I noticed a difference from the first time to the second time that I was there. The last time that I was there was about 1995.

:hi:

10. As of 2008 all restaurants will be "Non Fumeur" but
We've always noticed that the smoke isn't as worrisome when we're in France. Not sure why but it could be different tobacco blends and better ventilation.

It gets dark at around 8 -8;30 this time of year. Mid summer it's around 10-10:30P.

9. What fun! I haven't been in Paris since the early 70s and would give most
anything to go back...

Hope you have a great time!

What is the MOST touristy thing you plan to do?
What is the most "I'm just like everyone else who lives here" thing you like doing?

11. Touristy thing is our party on the Bateaux Mouche tomorrow.
Renting an apartment and giving directions to American tourists in French are the "I'm just like everyone else who lives here" thing that we do. That and dressing like a local.

12. This is going to sounds bad but...
I've been told that Paris actually stinks (as in the city has an actual mal-odorous scent).

Is it true or does it smell like any other big city?
