2. I understand what you're saying, but it's technically incorrect...

...which makes it a weak argument. Bush lost the popular vote, but won the electoral vote. Florida was the determining factor, and official poll results showed Bush as the winner. A recount was called for, and begun. The U.S. Supreme Court voted to halt the recount, making the original Florida election results final.

Gore did not "win" the vote by winning the popular vote. We have an electoral system in this country and, like it or not, it IS possible to lose the popular vote and win the electoral count. Likewise, the Supreme Court did not "select" Bush. They halted the recount.

Spin like this is dangerous, I believe, because it uses an interpretation of events, not the events themselves, to make a statement. I think it weakens our credibility.
