Can’t Fault DeLay’s Logic

I seldom if ever agree with Tom DeLay on anything (a bit of an understatement), but on the Imus issue, I have to admit that his logic is on the mark.

Don Imus gratuitously insulted the Rutger’s women’s basketball team on his radio show. His remarks were demeaning to women and African-Americans. In response to this bullying, numerous advertisers pulled their sponsorship of his show. His employers, in response to this loss of advertising, fired him.

Partisan and divisive as ever, DeLay’s response: “If the Left takes Imus, We’ll take Rosie,” referring to the outspoken celebrity on ABC television’s THE VIEW. You see, lately Tom has had the opportunity to watch a lot of daytime tv.

Obviously he is saying that the left identifies with Rosie while his side, the right, identifies with Imus, at least on this issue. So why does he include Imus in the editorial “we”?

I read elsewhere that Tom is not partial to Don Imus as an individual. I also note that the forces which brought abou that broadcaster’s ouster were, after all, market forces: i.e., loss of advertisers = no market. After all, the mantra of DeLay and his cohorts has long been, “let the market decide.”

One can only deduce that he is identifying with the bullying, demeaning comments Imus made.
His logic leads to the inescapable conclusion that the right is populated with bullies, misogynists, racists, and assorted bigots.

I can’t fault the logic that leads to this conclusion, for in 54 years I have seen little evidence to contradict it.
