(GD cross-post) Green Festival 2007, Chicago!
So, prolesunited & I spent the weekend at the Green Festival in Chicago.

I learned a few things:
Organic cheese tastes better than regular cheese. (fact!)
Vegan taco filling tastes better than I expected. (fact!)
Wheat grass is healthy, but it tastes like shit. (fact!)
Mayor Daley gave out hundreds of fluorescent bulbs. (good going, mayor!)
Great Lakes Brewing Company is 100% organic. (I did not know that)

How about some pictures and commentary?

Da mayor!

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

I'm sure you all know Greg Palast:

He & I had a brief exchange:

Him: Thanks for coming.
Me: No, thank YOU! I'm glad that you were able be here as opposed to being imprisoned at Gitmo for telling the truth.
Him: Yeah, No shit! Keep your eyes open, because I may get arrested any time soon.

He signed my book:

Then there was Amy Goodman:

While she was speaking, some dumbass who was sitting next to me decided to stand up and make an ass out of himself. He shouted that she was a LIAR regarding 9/11. The funny thing is that she didn't say shit about 9/11. Apparently, he was a "controlled demolition MIHOP" woo-woo, who didn't mind being a rude asshole. He almost started a fight. Amy was awesome, though.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Jim Hightower:

He's amazingly funny and nice too:

Quote: "George Bush has a thousand dollar hat and a ten cent head."

Dig my signed book!

______________________________________________________________________________________________

Dennis Kucinich brought the house down!

As I was shaking his hand, some guy said "I wish that you were MY congressman."
Dennis replied "Maybe I can be your president instead!"

Here's Dennis talking to a young kid in the audience:

Let me tell you something (I'm going to be a pig): If you think his wife Elizabeth is good-looking in photos, you should see her up close and in person. Sssmokin' hot!

Here's a gratuitous shot of Lake Shore Drive and the Chicago skyline from McCormick Place:

2. No, you need to post that in your subject line.

It's a very wonderful and entertaining thread, even if I'm a tad biased.

Plus, I think the mere mention of GD scares Lounge people off.

What's your shoe size?

I crapped a squirrel today!

What's your favorite foreign movie?

Look at my new shirt!

Boxers, briefs, or boxer-briefs?

I just completed a jigsaw puzzle! Bow to my greatness!

How do you unclog a drain?

Check out my new, used car!

What's your sign?

Take the douchebag quiz!

What famous dictator are you?

I agree with you on the wheat grass. :puke:

I loved this part:
As I was shaking his hand, some guy said "I wish that you were MY congressman."
Dennis replied "Maybe I can be your president instead!"

I truly wish that America were ready for a president like Dennis. Sadly, it ain't gonna happen any time soon.

8. You forgot Van Jones, a dynamic speaker who
spoke of the importance of getting blacks involved in the new Green economy. He presented a slide show about how blacks have traditionally been left out of the environmental movement and he wants to make sure all are included in the new emerging Green economy.

16. Thanks Terry. It was a lot of fun.
Packed house, though. After two days of that big a crowd, I was starting to get a little nervous.

24. I'd be the same way.
Crowds like that make me nervous after a while, too. It's like I can't breathe after a certain point.

It does look like that was a great event. And what a lineup! :-)

It might come in handy if I suspect that somebody is a vampire.

Also in Seattle and DC. You should try to make it. Lots of cool products in addition to the wonderful speakers. I really learned a lot.

"Hi mayor!"
"Hello."

23. I was there too.
Good times.
It kind of pissed me off that Amy Goodman had to shout over some band playing at the same time. McCormick place is big enough and there were a lot of paying people there. They could have had separate rooms.

I figured that there were some other DUers there. I would've said hi if I knew how to find you.
