FDA Agents Raid Pet Food Plant, Offices
Edited on Sat Apr-28-07 10:57 AM by Connonym
The food recall started on March 16 and the FDA raids the plants on April 27. I feel SO much better knowing they're right on top of this stuff :sarcasm: Un-fucking-real. I live in a house with five dogs and three cats. We buy a lot of pet food -- before every trip to the pet store I make sure that the brand we use (Nutramax) hasn't been added to the list. Even though it hasn't been I still feel a bit sick to my stomach with anxiety. It's a nightmare that this is still going on. I wish I could convince my housemates to switch to homemade pet food.

I'm disgusted by the cult of money that causes companies to forever look for ways to make things cheap -- not so they can lower the price or pay their workers well but so that shareholders can make more money. Then we have a government that's so under the thumb of business that it looks the other way when it comes to oversite. How on earth can people wave flags and be proud of a nation with a government this corrupt? I miss the idealism of my youth and I hate that I've lost the ability to feel proud of us.

<snip>April 27,2007 | WASHINGTON -- Federal agents searched facilities of a dog and cat food manufacturer and one of its suppliers as part of an investigation into the widening recall of pet products, the companies disclosed Friday.

Food and Drug Administration officials searched an Emporia, Kan., pet food plant operated by Menu Foods and the Las Vegas offices of ChemNutra Inc., according to the companies.

Menu Foods made many of the more than 100 brands of pet food recalled since March 16 because of contamination by the chemical melamine. ChemNutra supplied the manufacturer with wheat gluten, one of the two ingredients tainted by melamine used in recalled pet products. Both companies said they were cooperating with the investigation.
