PORTLAND, Ore. - A semi hauling wine coolers flipped on Interstate 5 near Terwilliger Boulevard on Saturday, shutting down all northbound traffic temporarily and causing traffic congestion for hours.

According to police, the driver of the semi lost control in the northbound lanes about 4:45 p.m. and at some point hit a Honda Pilot.

The driver of the Honda, 33-year-old Mariah Buell, and her passengers were taken to an area hospital, where they were checked out and released.

Investigators believe the semi was speeding. They measured 294 feet of skid prior to the truck rolling on its side. It then traveled an additional 260 feet before coming to a stop.

The driver, 41-year-old Mehmooda Matik of Wyoming, was cited for careless driving, failure to drive in the right lane and failure to drive in one lane, police said.

Officials expected parts of the interstate to remain closed or partially closed until 11 p.m. Saturday while crews unloaded and removed the truck.
