Who is your favorite pro wrestler(s)?
As far as older school wrestlers from when I was growing up go, my favorite was Curt "Mr. Perfect" Hennig. Great technical wrestler. Loved his gimmick. I loved his introductory promos with him shooting baskets, playing golf, hitting baseballs and even diving. Great stuff. Also on another note, he saved Wade Bogg's life in 2001 after a hunting accident. Interesting guy.

More recently, I would say Kurt Angle. He had a big influence on me was an amateur wrestler, so when he began pro wrestling, he naturally became my favorite wrestler. But he's fun to watch. A truly unbelievable athlete, and he's great on the mic too. Really funny. I like how he plays that nerdy, obnoxious character, especially when he was first breaking it. Great stuff.

Foley's "Cane Dewey" promo is the best of all-time I think. I watched it over and over and over on youtube like two weeks ago, until finally I gave in and bought Mick Foley's Greatest Hits and Misses, because it was on the extra features. It's well worth the watch.

Here it is:

last August. And Kip James. We were on our way to Disney. I think they may have been filming there at that time.

Kip James is friggin' huuuuuuuuuuuuge. I didn't know who either of them were until we got home and I looked them up. I said NFL players, wife said wrestlers.

I lost.

the funny thing about me is I didn't start watching wrestling until 91.. but I treasure any old footage from the 80s and seventies I can view.. which is why I always gobble these Docu-D.V.Ds whenever they are put out.

But yah view the cage match.. classic Flair entrance and just a good match.

31. I love the part when they take that cameraman and go hunt Dusty down
outside that building. Dusty's comments were great: "It was like a hit." haha

What kills me is that people were calling in and trying to get the Horseman thrown in jail. It's like it is so real to them that they feel compelled to call the police. That is so brilliant.

I like the late 80s brawls with Flair and Terry Funk. In terms of realism and style, it was way ahead of it's time. It was interesting because back them the WWE was still doing the more childish cartoonish character gimmicks, but WCW started getting edgy and realistic. Funk's gimmick then was that he was "middle-aged crazy" you almost felt like he would do anything at anytime.

Here is a good clip of Funk and Flair, plus Sting and The Great Muta

32. When I was younger, Kerry Von Erich
Now (and I feel like a total corp sellout) I'd say that I really like watching Bobby Lashley and Chris Benoit (I'm a bodybuilder at heart). I'd stop traffic to see Scott Steiner, as he's the most over-the-top no apologies I-mainline-roids guy in the game. I also like Batista and Cena because they bring a good mix to the show.

However, for pure carnage, NOBODY will ever top Abdullah the Butcher (except maybe The Sheik).

Kerry Von Erich, RIP

42. he and Goldberg got me interested in bodybuilding
I was a regular athlete, so I trained differently, but when I first retired, it was about the time Goldberg was getting known, and Steiner's physique just got freakishly huge. I used to wear my Goldberg shirt to the gym and everything, haha. I would jokingly call myself "Lil Poppa Pump." My body is beat up from sports though, heavy lifting is not my forte nowadays. Unless you count lifting a donut. Still, I am thinking about unretiring. I like the training and competition. Plus I'm pretty healthy again. We'll see. I might have to give Scott a call. :)

49. Little story
I got hooked by the Von Erich family at World Class Championship Wrestling. Kerry was my absolute favorite. I liked what he did, how he looked, etc. However, it didn't click with me until Hulk Hogan started in with his "say your prayers, eat your vitamins" stuff coupled with..."hangin' and bangin'" before I picked up my first weight. My best friend and I each bought our first plastic weight sets and benches at KMart right then and there.

I've never stopped. 20 years in the iron game, and I have to laugh when I say that I owe it to pro wrestling.

No shame in that

Can't say pro wrestling inspired me to do anything important in my life.. but it's brought me good times.

As for World Class Championship Wrestling.. I keep seeing a Docu on it in Best Buy (Non WWE produced.. although they are working on one). I've been told it's the best and most depressing wrestling doc you'll see.. so I should get it a chance.

The Von Erich tradition left wrestling with the death of all the brothers. It's so tragic.

38. I love The Rock
That guy was so hilarious. He doesn't get the credit that he should get, partly because I think he moved on from wrestling and doesn't really need it like say a guy like Stone Cold does, you know?

Here is one of my all-time favorites. Classic The Rock type stuff.

Of course, Bill Watts brought out the best in all of his wrestlers. If they didn't step it up, they were gone.

Unfortunately, the Iron Sheik has gone completely nuts. I watched part of his shoot interview, and it's obvious that years of substance abuse and being in such a crazy business have taken their toll.

The Undertaker has been through a lot of bad matches and angles (Not alway shi fault of course) but despite all that.. he always remains one of the top WWE draws .. .

His match with Batista at WM 23 . . . was just all shades of unexpected awesome.. but my fav match of his is probably the hell in the cell with HBK in 97 . . . He just beats the living shit out of HBK in that match.. and it was great!!!!

Watch "I'm From Hollywood" someday. He could pull down heat that Macho Man and Piper would have killed for. Those Memphis fans wanted him torn limb from limb. Sure, he was a dilletante, but he was a dilletante that loved pro wrestling and respected its traditions.

Overall, probably Macho Man - Solid skills and stamina, and that crazy charisma that made him work well as good or bad. Of course, I doubt I've seen more than about 30 minutes total of pro wrestling in the last 15 years.

58. It's hard to choose.
For the really old school guys, I have to go with Abdullah the Butcher, Jack Brisco, and The Sheik. In the 80s and early 90s, Ric Flair was the best. In a more modern era, my favorite was Stone Cold Steve Austin.

I don't even watch the crap that they try to pass of as pro wrestling these days.

63. Hulk Hogan gave me a big laugh one day
So I'll choose him.

I was walking out the back of Caesar's Palace one night. I guess Hogan had just finished a match, even though I had no idea the matches were taking place. That's how obscure they were.

Anyway, Hogan came through the revolving doors smack in front of me, with a scowl on his face and a small entourage. I recognized him immediately, but he was so unimposing I couldn't restrain laughter. This guy is named Hulk? That's all I could think about. He looked like a bloated old guy who wasn't particularly large or strong. Wrestling became a joke to me at that point. I might as well be intimidated by the bum on the nearby bar stool.

The only wrestling I ever followed was the championship wrestling from Florida in the '70s. It was televised on Saturday with a great announcer, although I forget his name.

First thing to do is understand that it isn't real. When you watch a movie do you sit around thinking: "Wait, this is so fake." No, nobody does that. They just sit back and enjoy the entertainment. That's how it is with pro wrestling. Sit back and enjoy the entertainment. :)

102. El Santo

Santo is the professional name of Rodolfo Guzmán Huerta (September 23, 1917 - February 5, 1984), more widely known as Santo, El Enmascarado de Plata ("Santo, the Silver-Masked Man" in English) who was a Mexican wrestler, film actor, and folk hero.

El Santo, along with Blue Demon & Mil Mascaras is perhaps the most famous and iconic of all Mexican luchadores, or free wrestlers, and has been referred to as "the greatest legend in Mexican sports". His wrestling career spanned nearly five decades, during which he became a folk hero and a symbol of justice for the common man through his appearances in comic books and movies. He and Blue Demon are said to have popularized professional wrestling in Mexico just as Rikidozan did in Japan and Hulk Hogan did in the United States.

The Great Kabuki.....no one had the gross factor like this guy. If he went in the ring, 3 gallons of green spit would follow. Gross, evil, and really nasty!

The Missing Link! He would grab a little tuft in the back of his head and pound things with his forehead....crazy!

The Undertaker! Old School version.....much scarier. And Paul Bearer was awesome......funny and a great contrast to the Silent One.

Did anybody watch Stampede Wrestling out of Calgary in the '70's? Old Stu Hart (Bret's dad) sure knew how to put on a fun show. You can guess Archie's schtick from his name, and man was he a heel, but he left town for a while then came back to put a real smackdown on Abdullah the Butcher, then he was the hero.

I'm from Cut Bank, MT, which is about 5 hours from Calgary, that's practically being neighbors around that neck of the woods. I loved all of Stu's guys. 114. Yeah, that show was a lot of fun
I had a long chat with Ed Whalen a few years ago, just before he died, and believe me, he sure had some choice things to say about the current wrasslin' business. Let's just say that "idiotic" was actually one of the more complimentary terms he used. He's right, it's nothing but a big dumb soap opera now, no fun at all.

I remember an edition of Stampede Wrestling I wish I had taped, somebody screwed up the edit. This was on Saturday afternoon. The commercial break is over, and the show resumes. The guy with the mike stands between two mean-looking wrestlers, and says, "We're back, and I'm here with <flubs the names badly>. Aw, fuck it, let's start again. Three. . . two. . . one. . . We're back. . ." The wrestlers are now snickering. Someone at the station wound up with his ass in a sling that day.
