I commandeered the microphone at BabyMidlo's school today.
At lunch, there are 'lunch nazis' whose only responsibility is to make sure that THOSE KIDS ARE QUIET.And, there is the requisite microphone to make sure THOSE KIDS HEAR THEM.

So, anyway, it was my best friend's son's birthday. I took TeenMidlo with me to have lunch with BabyMidlo and decided that it would be great if the entire fifth grade sang Happy Birthday.

So, I got up on the stage, grabbed the mic and got the kids to be quiet, (because in the past, I've given them ice cream, but I digress)then I got TM to sing Happy Birthday to this incredible little guy and the fifth graders were eating it up.

It was his Jack Kennedy/Marilyn Monroe Moment.

TM has yet to forgive, but I'm not worried. She'll need gas money sooner or later.

2. OMG! I hate the lunch moms at BabyG's school.
They are in trouble for ripping a glass bottle away from a child's mouth (NO GLASS!!! NO GLASS!!!!) and chipping his tooth. I have asked the prinicipal why they have women who so obviously hate children supervising them at lunch.

Very cool thing to do! :yourock:

5. I WISH it was moms. It's paid aides.
And, they're so blasted mean to them. We joke that when the turn the lights off, someone has gotten the chair.

They have 20+ minutes for lunch, give or take. Let them talk. As long as they aren't throwing food around, what's the big deal?

Plenty of times they will ask for the Fifth Graders! Time for you to stop talking. Who is still talking? and I will raise my hand and yell :Me!!! I'm talking. But I'm not in fifth grade:

Pretty sure they hate me. I don't care. Being nice to little kids should be a requirement in order to continue living, IMHO.

7. Bingo Bango! Spot on!
I yelled at the secretary once for being horrid to a little boy (2nd grade) who had thrown up. She was just plain mean. "Sit over there and wait and see how you feel...I don't have time for this!" I told her if she ever treated my son like that and I found out about it there would be hell to pay. It is horrible. They pay the lunch moms at our school.

8. Kudos to you Midlo

Taught for forty years and don't ever remember any lunch supervisor
demanding that the kids not talk. Have you spoken with the principal about
it? Or perhaps put it on the PTA (or other parent organization) agenda for
discussion. There might be some changes if enough parents complain. Good luck.
