4. Nice, but pretty shaky--and not as moving as his first due to changed expectations
I'd now say, given what I've read about his training and experience in Italy and elsewhere, that he doesn't have what it takes to be a truly great tenor. His is an amazing accomplishment no one should take away from, and his first appearance was high drama and very emotional, but as far as tenors go, give me Mario Del Monaco or Franco Corelli (two guys who share something with Paul in that they were self-taught to a large degree). If the capitalize on his underdog status and moving story, Paul could be marketed in a way that would make him very successful.

Here are the two tenors I mentioned doing "Nessun Dorma": They both have better extant versions, and Corelli's video has some crappy sound, but damn--the power and talent of those two guys.

5. I am a big fan of Pavarotti's rendition

Btw you have wonderful taste..I listened to both links..Beautiful.
I would submit that maybe Paul Potts is "still in the rough"...I would bet money that he will end up a diamond.

And a thought before i escape to the shower.
All music and styles must evolve or they die.
Country did
Rock did
Opera can.

6. Paul is already great.

His original performance made me choke up, and then dig out my old opera albums. :P His most likely path to success is either as a middling tenor in opera or perhaps a pop singer with a nice voice such as Andrea Bocelli, in which case he will be over-the-top spat upon by the opera fans as talentless and over-the-top championed by the pop fans as "better" than opera. :D Hopefully reasonable people will realize one can like each for what it is without diminishing the other.

What's nice is that people are discovering performances of the aria beyond Pavarotti's, who's sort of popularized it for the general public since the World Cup in 90.
