I just had to have one of the A/C units repaired and it cost $800 but it is well worth every penny to keep the house cool.

Now if I can just talk someone into filling my pool with ice...

I haven't turned it on yet. I'm still using the ceiling fans as much as possible. We gave-up on the pool several years ago because mr. alpern wasn't inclined to do any cleaning. x( I'm growing waterlilies now.

You must live in a much cooler area than I do. 85 is the overnight low temp.
My A/C wasn't working well last summer. Only one unit was working til we could replace the other one and it stayed in the mid 90's inside for about 2 weeks. Unbearable!
I love living here but these kinds of temps do make me wonder if I've lost my mind.

I returned home on May 8th after spending 7 months in southern florida to cool temperatures. I've had on a sweatshirt more in the last month than I did all winter long. x(

Actually, I lived in El Paso for a couple years, and it was much the same. We had a record 15 days in a row over 110 degrees, with a max of 117 while I was there. At least the swamp coolers work there.

10. Yep it's really dry and it's still really hot.

Humidity levels can be around 4%-5%. It's because the air is so dry that the temps can rise to the levels they do.
Once the monsoon starts around here the humidity levels rise and that holds the temps down a bit... only 105 degrees or so.

But don't let anyone kid you. When it's 110+ degrees it's hot no matter what the humidity levels are.

16. Dry heat makes a big difference

I was also in El Paso, but only for a few summer months, enjoying Ft Bliss. Yes, absolutely dry heat is better. And the area cools off quick once the sun sets, so sleeping is easy.

Following Ft Bliss was Ft Polk in LA, that was not a dry heat. At night it didn't cool down, just got dark and the mosquitoes came out. What a contrast. What a miserable hole that was.

Gimme the dry heat and salt stains.

in 89 or 90.
My god that was hot.

It was so hot that airliners could not takeoff.The heat effected the engine performance so badly that they could not get up to takeoff speed by the go/no go mark.
Arizona was a great place to go to school but I could never live there.It's just too hot there.

17. I experienced a 122 day in Amarillo, TX

while visiting Wonderland, the amusement park there. I joke that it was a dry heat (which it was), but it was still damned hot! We had several people in the group dealing with dehydration, even though we were constantly being reminded to drink plenty of water (which the park was providing for free).
