Well, it had to happen sooner or later.
TeenMidlo is babysitting my little friend with Down Syndrome and I gave them money to go to Tropical Smoothie for lunch.

She calls me minutes after leaving, hysterical, because the truck in front of her hit another car and flipped over!

I told her to call 911, get back in her car and pull to the side and that I would be right there.

Bottom line, horrific accident, but it happened literally at the intersection of the hospital, so help was there immediately. The guy in the SUV was fine, although they did, as a precaution, strap him to a backboard for transport.

So, it was her first. I remember witnessing my first accident and it was pretty traumatic.

1. Yikes. I'm glad it wasn't her involved in the wreck.

2. You and me, both.
When I picked up the phone, she was crying and all I heard was 'bad accident', so my heart probably stopped there for a bit.

The guy seemed to be okay, though, Thank God.

3. Oh my god - you've just brought back a memory for me.
My sister and I (then about 17 and 13) were driving home from some errand, and we were about to cross the bridge over the Minnesota River (which at that time looked sort of rickety and scary, so we were het up anyway). It was raining and a little slick on the road. Just in front of us, a car skidded, flipped over, landed on the side of the road and caught fire.

My sister pulled over and just sat and cried.

I don't remember what happened after that. It was horrible.

I hope TeenMidlo and your young friend will be all right. What a terrible thing to see.

kind of like a couple years ago when the dude's house was on fire and he asked DU what he should do?

j/k. glad she is ok and hopefully not too shaken up.

she will remember that sound for the rest of her life (but we all do)

6. No goofball. It happened three hours ago.
:eyes:

She was pretty shaken up, but thankfully, Nadilee didn't realize what had happened because she was strapped into the middle of the back seat and she's so little she can't see out the windows.

Now they're at the pool.

I did tell her next time to call 911 FIRST, and then call me. Even though she's almost 17, she still labors under the delusion that I know everything.

I have to keep telling her that I'm not a MEDICAL doctor, but all she sees is the Dr. Midlo stuff in the mail.

9. That's because you should have been taking them to Cracker Barrel for chicken pot pie.
Seriously, I am sorry that your daughter and friend had to have that experience. TeenMidlo did the right thing. And they are okay.

10. My thoughts exactly!!!
But I had conference calls and couldn't get there. If you aren't there by 12:30, they're all gone.

12. Scary stuff - glad she's okay
When my middle daughter was about 13, I took her to work with me. I was doing veterinary bookkeeping at my friend's home on top of a mountain in Vermont. Anyway, it began to snow pretty heavily and I decided we'd better go home before we got stranded.

I had a front wheel drive with good tires on it but it was very slick and as I was driving slowly down the hill, we got to a curve and the car just kept going straight. I had enough time to tell my daughter, "Hang on, we're going off the road," and off the road we went. The scream she let out made me feel so bad, poor kid.

We were going very slowly so no one was hurt although the car was pretty beaten up - we went over the embankment and thankfully got hung up on a stump within a few yards. And we had to walk several miles before we got picked up by a kind soul (very remote area and no cell phone back then).

It was my daughter's first experience with any kind of car accident and she's never forgotten it. She's 25 now and a very good driver. In retrospect, it was kind of a good thing - let her see how quickly things can happen without her being hurt.
