What kind of music do you like to dance to??
I was going to post a poll but there are so many different types I figured
asking would be better....
Ballroom
Jazz
Rock & Roll
Rap
Country????
Big band
swing
You get my drift :)

Me I dance to Rock and Roll from the late 50's on up...
In the 90's and now its top 40...
i even dance to some rap...
and I LOVE to dance to Rhianna's
Umbrella
and Justin Timberlakes
What goes around comes around

So what do you dance to??
Have you had lessons in anything particular???

In a music mood tonight....

Psychedelic garage band music, played as a waltz with a reggae tinge in 11/4 time. I have so much trouble finding CD's like this.

Oh, and I also like doing the horizontal mambo.

27. my lovely lost...
darkstar that posts on here will know exactly what i am talking about here...

I have spent the last 35 years or so listening to "songs" that typically last 30 minutes each, with guitar jams and musical interplay that truly fascinates me, and I am therefore unable to relate to what normal people such as yourself consider to be good music. It's like it doesn't even touch me emotionally.

I was at a Grateful Dead show in Portland Maine in 1986. The music was so intense that it made my neck hairs stand up. I was located on the floor, and I danced my ass off all night.

My brother-in-law, who came with me on the trip, but did not go to the concert, met me at a hotel bar for a few drinks afterwards. I walked in, basking in the glow from the concert, and there was some lounge singer in there singing "You Light Up My Life", or some similar song.

After this music I had just listening to for 3 hours, then to listen to this lounge singer, well, I started to laugh. And I couldn't stop. I got hysterically giggly, so much so, that I was kindly asked to leave the premises, which I did. True story.

So you see...I'm a lost cause. Pray with me.O8)

16. Check out Zappa's 'Sheik Yerbouti'
Here's the liner note for "Rubber Shirt":

The bass part is extracted from a four track master of a performance from Göteborg, Sweden 1974 which I had Patrick O'Hearn overdub on a medium tempo guitar solo track in 4/4. The notes chosen were more or less specified during the overdub session, and so it was not completely an improvised "bass solo." A year and a half later, the bass track was peeled off the Swedish master and transferred to one track of another studio 24 track master for a slow song in 11/4. The result of this experimental re-synchronization (the same technique was used on the Zoot Allures album in "Friendly Little Finger") is the piece you are listening to. All of the sensitive, interesting interplay between the bass and drums never actually happened... also note the guitar solo section of the song "Yo' Mama" on side four was done the same way.

Now... DANCE, ya polecat!

21. Is it music? Then I'll dance.
I'll even dance to the motherfucking rap and hip-hop. I just don't dance without about 40 other people around me. :D I used to like to kick up my heels to the Commodores's "Brick House" a fuckload.

I've never tried ballroom dancing (swing, etc.) but I once ran (in a vaguely rhythmic fashion) around and around a room to the tune of "Take Five" at a friend's Sweet Sixteen. Good enough for me. At least I stayed with the swing.

22. Benny Goodman or Glenn Miller
The best dance music EVarrr is Louis Prima's "Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing)," performed by Goodman's orchestra with Gene Krupa on drums. (Count Basie's "Jumpin' at the Woodside" rates mention as well.)

For romantic dancing, nothing I've heard beats Miller's "Moonlight Serenade."

I don't actually "dance" well, but running around to the beat laughing and swirling around in circles and faux-dipping one's friends to the jazz tunes is real damn fun. :7 Yeah, my friends and I are weird. Whut you gonna do 'bout it?

36. I hate to admit it, but I don't know how to dance. No clue. None.
Most of the music I listen to is rock-based blues (Foghat, for example); I'm stuck on the same music I liked in the 1970s and have never danced a step in my life.

There has been more than one occasion during which a nice-looking girl asked me to dance and I had to turn her down because I'm too clueless to do it. My one regret is never learning to dance like an adult; I wouldn't really enjoy it because good dance music is nothing that I like, but it sure would have helped socially.

I have a girlfriend now who doesn't like dancing much either, but that's shit luck. Realistically, I should know how even if just to be polite, but I can't do it.

I love dancing to country music because of the variety of dances. Two step, waltz, cotton eyed joe, swing & jitterbug are all danced to country music.

I also like dancing to rock & roll. I have never danced to any of the others you listed.

61. Late 70s-early 80s ska
It's got the greatest beat. Punk, hardcore and "new wave" and "alternative " too.

I can pretty much dance to anything but I don't like most dance music they play in clubs. It's very repetitive. One song sounds like the other beatwise.

I know lots of types of dancing..ballroom, salsa, swing, country..and since I am well versed in dancing basics, I can learn new stuff quickly. My favorite types of music though are blues/swing for both Jitterbug/East Coast Swing and West Coast Swing, and Salsa along with Country for Two-Step, Waltz, and there is some nice cha-cha music in the tex-mex flavored country.

65. My ultimate dancing song
Le Tigre's "Hot Topic." I cannot listen to it without dancing.

I usually dance to alternative and indie-rock. Yes, it's possible.
