Does your spouse/SO talk to you about work?
Mine doesn't. I have to find out what's going on from his colleagues. It's very frustrating. He'll sit there and yap on the phone about the work situation while I listen for details I don't know. The research funding situation sucks, so he's had to get a job at another hospital starting September 1st. Of course, I'm trying hard to get him to move to California. It never ceases to amaze me how men just don't open up and share much about their lives.

2. More than I want to know sometimes.
I told my husband they should have given me an honorary PhD because I learned so much about insects.

4. We both talk/vent about our work as needed. Luckily we both like and are good at our work,
so the venting is minimal and for the most part we have better things to talk about. I do sometimes have a hard time following when he's talking about his, because there's a lot of industry specific language involved, but lawd help me I'm picking it up.

5. Both of us talk about work.
We have a lot of funny stories about co-workers and batshit insane rude customers.

6. Too much talk about work!
I usually have to make sure we talk about other stuff or our entire convo would be about work if I left it up to him. You should be glad that your SO wants to talk about a broad range of topics instead of just work. I have actually kept cheat sheets of stuff I've heard that day or interesting tidbits of information which I can use to broaden our discussions to keep them from getting too narrowly focused on work.

9. Is he just naturally taciturn?
Some of us are you know.

And nothing annoys a taciturn person more than being poked and proded to "open up."

10. Absolutely! It is part of our life.
Her work takes her from Poland to Russia to India, to where ever. In May, Dr. D. gave a paper at EUWOP (EU Work and Organizational Psychologists) in Stockholm. I got daily reports on the conference from Dr. D.

Her pro bono includes the National Academy of Sciences and, as of late, a US State Department non-political board that oversees the administration of the professional foreign service tests. A recent project for the National Academy of Sciences locked me out of the discussion because of the SECRET classification.

She amazes me with her stories of actually writing the new ethics guidelines for the APA (American Psychological Association). Or the latest board decisions at SIOP (Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychologists).

11. I get nothing unless I ask.
And the usual answer is "work is work." I have to drag the details out of him. So after almost 19 years of this  I don't ask anymore.

I just went to the library yesterday and got the book "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus." I have been bugging him for years about his lack of communication. Maybe this will help me understand more.
