"Tastes like chicken"
Why does most exotic meat taste like chicken?
Or so 'they' say.
Rattlesnake comes to mind.
The first time I heard about people eating rattlesnake, one said "It tastes like chicken."

What kind of weird stuff have you eaten that tastes like chicken?

1. I once ate monkfish on the promise that it tasted like chicken.
And I hate fish. Bleah. Now, I do LOVE shrimp, lobster and crablegs, but not fish. Which tastes...fishy.

Damn monkfish tasted like fish, NOT chicken. Since that day, I have not let myself be swayed.

2. I don't like fishy tasting fish either.
I have heard that putting lemon on fish helps get rid of the fishy taste.

4. The only fish I really like is catfish, and I have to know where comes from.
Fish is not my favorite food.

5. Nor mine, obviously....
But, place a nice lobster in front of me right now and I'd scarf it down with pleasure. And I've already eaten dinner!

6. OK, I gotta say it.
If I didn't like the taste of fish, I wouldn't eat it.
There's only one thing I can think of that I just don't like the taste of.
Cilantro.

To me, it tastes like when you got your nose full of water in an over-chlorinated swimming pool.

I have read that this is a genetic condition.
Cilantro doesn't taste like that to most folks.

My solution is...
I don't eat cilantro.
;-)

7. I treat fish the same way you treat cilantro.
I don't eat it. For that matter, I agree with you about cilantro.

Now, whenever you post about buying Gulf shrimp right off the boat, I start drooling.

I'll put you on my list of possible organ donors.

15. Well, we have both been swimming in beautiful Crystal Lake, IL.
So there may have been some exchange at some point. Of course, I went there several years before you lived there, but....one never knows.

9. EVERYTHING tastes like chicken.
Was explaining to a Japanese friend about this, since he'd run across it and it didn't make sense to him. His tastebuds and palate were developed and trained to the point where something that wasn't chicken didn't taste like it...but he finally understood the American need to put a 'weird' food into an understandable context.
Later, upon ingestion of a piece of peppermint candy he informed me:
"Hmm. Tastes like chicken."
:spray:

20. I was told Frog legs
I was told by someone that if I liked chicken, I'd love frog legs. I tried them. Blechh! Ptooey!
It took me a long time after that to "like" chicken again.

Cilantro tastes like some kind of industrial pine cleaner.

21. Rattlesnake. Tastes just like chicken
Or did you already cover that one? :)

That's interesting about cilantro tasting like chlorine; to me, it doesn't taste anything at all like pool water. However, a little bit goes a long way...

23. Even if it were true (which it isn't)...
The phrase is guaranteed to be the unfunniest joke spoken by whoever decides to utter it in an allegedly humorous context.
