Is it like conceiving a virgin pregnancy to build up your triceps?
Jesus!

I've been working on mine for weeks, and I can only see a *little* difference. They're so much weaker than my biceps and shoulders. I just bought heavier weights, but I can barely lift them, with my triceps.

1. My dear Lara...
I think you've got it about right...

It takes forever...

The guys have it sooooo much easier, what with all that testosterone and stuff...

Keep at it, sweetie....

You will eventually have something to show for all your efforts....

7. Honest advice. Diamond pushups
lie prone, put your index finger tips and thumbs together forming a diamond between them, then do as many pushups as you can. be sure to not cheat, go all the way down to the floor each rep to really stress them

8. I haate pushups. I will do them, but I hate them.
I hate them, of course, because they're difficult. They're difficult, because I have weak triceps. It's a bitter cycle.

I will watch the YouTube.
I will do the pushups.

13. I agree. (A composite response to DS1 and LaraNM)
I think that exercises using your own weight are the speediest workouts, and are the most useful and most relevant in real life motion.

Push-ups (and their cousin exercises like dips, et al) are the bomb. Additionally, exercises like this contribute a lot to core strength and stability---and hello taut waistline---because you aren't just isolating triceps but they sure do work. As DS1 sez, these diamond pushups will emphasize your triceps, but the rest of your body participates and benefits too.

Hang in there, good luck! :hi:

3. No.
Work on your repetitions (3) and gradually increase your weights.

6. I got heavier weights because I was doing about 30 reps,
and I felt like all it was producing was vaguely discernable tone. I went up five pounds, and I can barely lift the suckers!

14. Have you tried resistance bands?
I know a lot of people here use them and get pretty good results.

15. Form is everything.
I need strong arms because my legs are paralyzed. In rehab after the accident I had an awful time strengthening triceps - partly because a stupid physical therapist didn't understand the right form. I can't tell the right form standing, but when sitting -- lean slightly forward, put your fist, palm in, on the center of your hip with your elbow a little up in the air behind you and against your side. Now lift the weight straight back, keeping the wrist straight and your arm against your side. Return to hand to the hip. I now do these in a pool chair with "water weights" as it actually gives me more resistance than regular weights.

I was told even standing it helps to bend forward at the waist to isolate the triceps.

17. A few tips:

Bench press extremely light weight for 30-40 reps. You can also invert your hand, as in turn your palms toward your chin, and bench that way. Another thing that's nice is doing dips between benches. You space the benches out the length from your tail bone to your heels, rest your heels on the far bench, and hold yourself up over the bench under you. You then dip down and back up. You can do this at home sitting at the edge of your bed, using a chair for your feet.

To build size and strength in your tri's, these two movements offer most people the best results. Pull downs, "skull crushers", tricep extention and other fine movements tone the tri's, and will add little if any strength/size.

19. What exercises are you doing with these weights?
What's the poundage and how many sets/reps are you doing?
