How Often Do You Eat Beef?
Edited on Thu Jul-26-07 10:57 AM by lionesspriyanka
The argument has been made that beef eating is not environmentally sustainable. I think doing anything excessively is what is not sustainable. However, I wanted to know how frequently do non-vegetarians eat beef?

I eat beef once ever 2 weeks in the summer and once a week in winter.

So how often do beef eaters eat beef?

1. Once or twice a month
But I have heart disease. I seem to feel better when I eat it than not. I especially crave it during or just after my period.

Mostly I stick to chicken, pork, or fish.

4. About twice a week.
We eat beef, poultry, pork, and fish, and we also do meatless meals.

However, we eat beef more than twice a week if I've made a roast beef dinner. I can usually get 3-4 meals out of that.

45. You should have seen a friend of mine from Pakistan
We both were majoring in the same multiple subjects, so out of 5 classes, 3 of them were together, and because our daily schedule we always hung out during lunchtime. When ramadan came, he kept insisting that we go to McDonalds each day so he could eat 2 fish sandwiches for lunch. His family was wondering why he kept putting on weight and wasn't very hungry at the evening meal.

I no longer order beef when I go out unless I know the restaurant uses organically raised meat. It's a challenge because I love the local bbq place and they don't use organically raised meat...I figure I will have to break my rule a couple times a year anyway.

19. 2-3 times per week
We also eat lots of chicken and fish, plus some pork and lamb. We eat tons of vegetables and fruits from local farmers and we've been buying more and more of our meat from local farmers as well. We now belong to a cow-share so our milk and eggs come straight from the farm to our kitchen (from grass-fed cows and free range chickens).

I think the issue of environmental sustainability needs to be about eating locally versus eating meat and produce that is shipped 1500 miles away from your table. Right now, eating locally is easy for us, as we live in farm country and there are lots of organic meat and produce co-ops around here. I realize that it's harder for others to do that but eating as locally as possible is key.

Seriosly...I'm scared to death of eating beef with what I've read about it since I've been here. I limit it...but the CHICKEN is GETTIN BORING...no matter how many ways I can cook it...so once in awhile I seek out Whole Foods for source....but I don't trust them. Their meat is TOO RED in COLOR! You'd have to have been around like me to know that real good, tender beef isn't bright red and dripping with blood....ugh....

52. actually
now that I think of it, I don't eat it either. For years I've had yummy veggie burgers instead of the regular ones my husband gets and when I make tacos I have corn and beans while he has ground beef. I can't remember having it. I haven't missed it, I never liked the way it felt anyway.

I've cut down on pork a lot but I use it for pasta sauce about every other week. It's complicated to make a big sauce in two parts, one for the meat eater and one for me.

It's one of the principles I try to live by: everything in moderation. It feels right to me, dare I say, on a spiritual level (coming from an atheistic pagan). Nothing feels more spiritually/emotionally out of balance to me than self-righteousness, no matter what good it professes to be in the name of.

63. people have been eating meat for centuries, its only unsustainable now, because of the amounts
in which we eat.

in meat eating parts of india, no one has red meat more than once a week, and even less in the summer.

meat is sustainable, excessive indulgence of anything (including bottled water) isnt.

My blood pressure is 107 over 67, and my total cholesterol is 158. My bad cholesterol is way below average. I'm 175 pounds at 6'2". I watch what I eat religiously and I try to work out 2-3 times per week. I'm also 41, so no fast metabolism here.

contrary to popular belief, and i quote, "blood pressure is a continuum with decreasing pathology associated with lower levels to well within the current "optimum" range". that means that it's better to have a systolic of 110 than 120. all systolic pressures below 120 are not equal.
