DU dream experts: What do dreams about water mean?
I had a very strange dream this morning before I woke up (I overslept!). I was lying on a beach and the tide was getting closer and closer. Finally, I got splashed pretty well by the water and swept away a little bit, and people on sort of a street behind a barrier were reacting but didn't seem worried. The last tide I saw before waking up was really high and way too close! I had another dream about huge amounts of water, sort of like a flood. Yes, I know I'm weird!

3. Water can be symbolic of many things
Edited on Mon Aug-13-07 11:38 PM by Shine
it can represent your unconscious feelings....as in the ebb and flow of our emotions...

Maybe you feel out of control in some part of your life

Maybe you need a good cry

Maybe you just want to go to the beach. :D

I just got back from letting the boy get Madden 08. I must be insane. But I figured, it's summer, he doesn't have to get up, and he was really excited to get it.

Weird planet, eh?

so now I'm kinda loopy.

on edit, this is cool - all my favorite people are in this thread!

13. um it's the football video game (he's one of the commentators)
he's actually rather zen-like in his pronouncements.

yes, I've actually managed to produce a football fan ( my husband is a true Pittsburgher who loves the Steelers, and my son inherited the gene! )

we even went to Steeler training camp last year, and then a day trip to the Football Hall of Fame in Canton. Trust me, you have never seen a more unlikely group - my sister the Communications PHD and me the shrink, shepherding my son around the Hall full of it's shiny busts of football heroes past, and various football paraphernalia.

you'll still talk to me, right? ;)

I'm not totally lame.

16. I am the most unlikely sports person I know
I was the only mom wearing a hippie shawl and a Ramones t-shirt in the Madden line.

the guy in the store said, "you're a cool mom, my mom would never do this!"

12. WATER: Water is an extremely complex symbol. It is quite often associated with...
...the unconscious mind and the changeable emotions and intellectual ideas that we have. It therefor signifies something that is fluid and likely to change at any moment.

LAKES: Lakes in dreams are mainly symbolic of issues and parts of our lives. They are symbolic of the intuitions towards some issue. they may represent an emotional doubt related to some issue.

PONDS: Ponds are fairly easy symbols. They usually refer to your own personal emotions. They show you are thinking deeply and reflecting on your own moods.

SWAMP: Swamps tend to link to moments when you feel lacking in motivation. They show you are maybe stuck in a routine.

SWIMMING: Swimming in dreams can show that you have really changed or want to change in some way in your life. You are thinking strongly about emotional matters and making real attempts to improve your emotional life. So look for ways in which you have been emotionally reflective.

CLEAR WATER: Clear water is extremely good and signifies clear thinking. It shows that you are clearly resolved to follow one course.

19. every dream means something to the person having it
it is hard to interpret them for other people. However, I would say that you are feeling overwhelmed or something is coming that will be tough to deal with etc, something you yourself must deal with, alone

21. Means you need to go to the bathroom.

:silly: No, I just couldn't resist that. When I dream about looking for a bathroom is when I need to go to the bathroom.

I used to dream about tidal waves a lot. I think it means you feel overwhelmed.

26. not a damned thing....
Edited on Wed Aug-15-07 12:55 AM by mike_c
Dream content is drawn from your experiences, even when it is synthesized into new experiences that you never really had-- remember, experience runs all the way down to neural chatter on sensory and motor pathways, so the experience of walking off a cliff in a dream is not fundamentally different from walking across your living room in waking life, in many ways.

Dreams are an adaptive way to stimulate neural networks and run them through practice scenarios. Neurons need to run associational trials to find appropriate firing thresholds in animals with highly plastic behaviors, like humans, and dreaming those trials is a whole lot safer than running into real lions and tigers and bears. WHAT you dream is not of any real consequence unless it provides a therapeutic window into experiences you consciously suppress.

IMO, of course.

28. That you're thinking about water?
I don't do dream analysis; I think you dream whatever the hell's in your head. At most your dreams may be things you dwell on during the waking day. So why the hell are you thinking about water? :)
