I think "Helluva Job Brownie" could run my office. A rant.

Okay, can I tell you how much I hate this place? Seriously, there is no consideration for anyone here.

The weather just got really, really bad. Lightening struck the building next door. Our power flickered on and off. So my coworker was checking online when a warning popped up saying "Tornado *WARNING* issued for (our office zipcode). Please take cover immediately."

So we called the building receptionist, thinking that perhaps she didn't know. She said "Hm, okay, let me check with (the head of HR)."

Then nothing.

Five minutes later we got an email saying "Remember to save your work more often in nasty weather like this."

Five minutes after that we got another email saying "Might want to shut down! Listen to some news!"

No general announcement over the PA telling us to gather in relatively safe rooms of the building. No consideration at all really. More concern over the hardware and saving our work than anyone's safety.

Unfuckingbelievable. If anyone had been hurt or killed just now the lawsuits would've been flying. And I would be the first to sign a statement outlining the company's complete lack of concern or preparation.

1. Well a tornado actually did touch down in my neighborhood at home.
I just called our house and our answering machine picked up. So we still have electricity. And an answering machine. Whether it's sitting on top of a pile of rubble remains to be seen.

2. Yikes! That's scary
I know what you mean, though. I live and work in earthquake country and the grocery store in which I work has NO emergency plan in place whatsoever. None.

I've brought it up to every manager that's come in and none of them has had any interest in even a basic evacuation plan or place of assembly.

Christ, high school was more organized. :banghead:

Hope no one was hurt or property damaged. Tornados are scary.

3. So far no damage, although another storm is rolling in behind this one.
My husband was told to leave early. Naturally no one here was let out early. I'm supposed to stay until 5:45 but I may just say fuck it.

I'm sorry to hear you have similar incompetence at your work. Why do companies do such stupid things? Is it really worth the potential injury and suffering, not to mention the bad will it creates? I just have to shake my head.

Anyway, thanks for caring skygazer, I was starting to *really* feel like a lounge loser.
