How to Save a Life
Will someone please tell me what this song is about... exactly?

Please? I get it stuck in my head for hours, if not days... and it seems so sad.

Reading through the lyrics, it seems to be a break-up song. But, why the title?

BTW, I have never watched Grey's Anatomy, so the video didn't really answer my question(s).

Thanks.

Sorry, if I'm being a thread abandoner re: my other thread, started earlier. I'm very tired tonight.

How To Save A Life The Fray lyrics
Artist: The Fray

Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life
How to save a life

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life

1. the guy worked as a counselor during a summer
and there was a kid there that was really messed up (like addicted to hard drugs or something) and he's supposed to help him and he realizes that he really isn't qualified to help this kid because his problems are beyond what the songwriter himself has experienced in life. So he basically learns he doesn't know as much as he thought he did. That's the general gist of it. :hi:

I did a google search. Found out some more info about the song. They even created a website (http://www.howtosavealife.com) because there are so many interpretations.

Thanks again! :hi:

3. not sure
it's possible but he doesn't really make it very clear. I used to have a link to the singer talking about the meaning but I can't find it anymore, it's essentially what I posted above. :hi:

5. that is a great link
good, I was pretty close. I thought I read that in wikipedia but I have read that quote, I just can't remember where. It's so nice to see a song about a different kind of topic like that do so well.
