Sauder Woodworking ...
what part of it is wood? We just purchased a bookshelf and the damn thing fell apart before we could even get it up. We just wanted to put some shelves in the closet, nothing expensive. But this is ridiculous! It's particle board with contact paper on it. Piece of shit is going back tomorrow. Shouldn't they change their name to Sawdust?

OK, I'm in a bad mood b/c I spend the last hour putting it together and I still can't unpack my stuff because I don't have shelves.

1. Nothing but crap
We have encountered the same problem with their stuff before. I think they should change their name - you are absolutely correct. I feel your pain!

5. Thanks.
We were trying to build a media center in a closet ... sort of hard to do with wire rack shelving. I was SO excited about getting some boxes unpacked. Guess we'll have to wait a bit longer. :( You'd think you could get something made out of wood at a place like Lowe's.

6. I'm seriously considering that.
I already have the cinder blocks .. and some leftover bricks. I could make it multi-colored.

It's the wood planks that will send us to the poor house. Damn, but they want a lot for them! :wow:

Hey, merh, it's been ages! How are ya?

:hi::hug:

13. Have you considered using pallets?
Merchandize is delivered on pallets. They will stack the stuff up on pallets and then plastic wrap it and then use a forklift to load the delivery trucks. That wood is pretty sturdy and often the pallets are thrown away. Check the classified sections or call around. Some folks actually recycle them and sell them back to the distributors. Go on line and see what you can find, check craigs list.

I'm doing good, my house is being built and I hope to be out of the tin can on wheels by the end of the month or by Thanksgiving at the latest.

I hope you are doing well.

:hi:

7. You mean ...
all-down construction. No kidding! It fell right down and a shelf hit me in the head! (Oooo ... can I sue them for millions of dollars now?)

I wrote right on the box: "THIS IS JUNK!" Hopefully, they won't try to sell it to someone else.

9. Don't know where you are, but if you're near
Ephrata, PA, there is a place my MIL goes called 'The Garden Spot'. It's apparently mostly showroom samples that have been refurbished. Prices were really reasonable and the wood real. Maybe there is something similar near you.

11. Not near Epharta, PA.
 I'll have to look around. I really don't want wire rack shelving and I have enough to do already that I want to buy something pre-finished.

We used to live near Binghamton, NY, when Pa's Woodshed was in business. They had all kinds of real wood things for reasonable prices. We have some nice shelves from there, but they're the wrong size for my media closet. I bet they'd have something, though.

10. 2 years ago I bought a TV stand to support up to a 32" set weighing up to 130 pounds.
The 27" TV was 80 pounds.

After almost 2 years, the thing had buckled pretty badly and wobbled.

It was poorly designed too; no strut in the middle - which would have prevented the buckling.

The veneer started peeling off as well, as I recall...

Made in China too. Dunno if it was designed there, but I wouldn't be surprised. So many types of jobs are said to be going offshore...

12. I know what you mean.
This piece has a boo-boo right out of the box that I was willing to ignore ... until the whole damn thing came crashing down. Should've paid attention to where it was made, but I've hardly seen a darn thing that wasn't made in China lately. :(

15. Unfortunately, none of it. Sorry, darling.
Interestingly, Target has some solid wood products for the home. Desks, shelves, etc. Reasonably priced as well.
