I don't know how to break this to you, Lounge, but here goes.
Last night, I ran out for some groceries. In a small back corner of the store, next to the milk, was the bane of Christmas itself....the Claxton Fruit Cake.

Yes. It's back. Probably left over from last year, or the year before. Priced to sell.

It's only October and it's 9000 degrees here, but the fruitcake from Hell is back.

(Disclaimer: I actually don't mind fruitcake, but this stuff....bleh....:puke: )

1. If nothing else, it's shelf-stable.
Too bad there aren't any county fairs right now - we could find out what deep-fried fruitcake tastes like.

6. I remember those.
Yikes! My grandma used to get them...why I couldn't tell you. Yuch.

We had to go shopping yesterday and I couldn't BELIEVE how many stores already had the Christmas crap out.
It's going to be 92 degrees here today - record heat. But you can already hear "White Christmas" playing in some stores.

8. Nothing better than a fruitcake. . .
That someone has made by hand, with love. And a bit of whiskey.

OTOH, there's nothing worse than an off-the-shelf one.

11. The Claxton web says this about its founder, Albert Parker...

"I would call him one of the greatest Christians I have ever known", said Claxton Mayor Perry Lee DeLoach.

Today, many in the nation sneer or jeer at such simple values as honesty, hard work and dedication to one's family and community. Those nattering nabobs of negativism obviously never met or heard of Mr. Parker. He is proof that good guys can finish first."

12. I went to school in Statesboro, GA which is right next to Claxton
Edited on Mon Oct-08-07 10:42 AM by RubyDuby in GA
It's also a huge chicken processing place with Claxton chicken going out all over the South.

There was always a large display of them in every grocery store in the surrounding area.
Now my dad has actually tried some and says it's okay - if you like that kind of crap.
