Recommend a good digital camera.
I was looking all over the place for my digital camera and I can't find the damned thing anywhere. I guess it was kind of old anyway, so I've decided to get a new one. I'm looking for something that is decent quality, but I don't need professional grade. Any suggestions? Please tell me the approximate price as well.

9. Must second this recomendation.
The Canon A570 IS (IS for Image Stabilization) is a fantastic camera. You can leave it on automatic and get GREAT pictures, but on those occasions where you aren't getting the results you want, it has more than typical manual controls. It also has an optical viewfinder and not just an LCD. You can turn off the LCD to save battery life, or if it's really sunny and the screen doesn't show up well. Optical viewfinders are becoming extinct on point and shoots. It's also only about $170. Reviews on the net from CNET to Amazon to more dedicated photo sites also agree it's a great camera. Here's a detailed review:

Just be sure to get rechargeable batteries because it goes through batteries quickly, like most digital cameras.

My parents just returned from a vacation with this camera, and the pictures are excellent and they are not technically or photographically sophisticated.

4. After you decide
don't forget to check COSTCO's prices (if you live near one).
We are happy with our Kodak P850 but there are better ones now that cost less.
Good luck. p

5. COSTCO has yet to come to Dayton, Ohio
I wish they would, though. I hear good things about them.

6. If price is a factor... this is a great bang for the buck

I have the 5MP version I got for $69.99 at Target - $30 less than Walmart's price on the same camera.

Only complaint is that the optical zoom is low - only 3x's. But the quality is fantastic and the price is great.

I like the long zoom (10-12 times) and the 7.1 megapixels. I have used this camera and it does a lot of good things.

13. The Powershots are nice.
Word of warning, they eat batteries like crazy. Buy a set of rechargeable and you won't be disappointed with it.
