I never acquired a taste for the stuff.

Liquor, on the other hand, was enjoyable for me from day one.

Who else here does not do beer?

2. My dear MrScorpio...
I'm with you...

I've never really acquired a taste for it either...

It just seems watery to me...

OTOH, I do like ale...but haven't had it in decades!

The hard stuff is great but I can only have it in very small amounts!

I'm really a one-glass wine drinker...

:hi:

5. Me. And it's not for lack of trying.
It really sucked in college to be the person who didn't like beer, since that was generally the only alcohol I could afford. I like wine, gin & tonics, mojitos, and hard cider though.

6. Me
I've had people go into long diatribes about how this beer is great, that one sucks, etc. Seriously, I couldn't tell a Narragansett, Papst Blue Ribbon, or an Old Milwaukee from a Heineken, Beck's or a Sam Adams.

I'm just a gin and tonic/Jack and Seven man myself.

13. There are a few beers that you might try if you're interested.
Samichlaus, aged 11 months. It's a very thick brew. Very expensive, very full of alcohol.

Kriek Lambic Ale. The Belgian company ages beer with different kinds of fruit. My fave was the cherry. Friends I'd offered it to describe it as cough syrup.

Arrogant Bastard Ale. 15% or so.

I can't believe that I've recommended two ales, the lightweights of beerdom...

There is a pub just across the Detroit border in Grosse Pointe; I forget it's name, but it has an incredible selection of beers on tap, and seasonal beers as well.

If you want your liquors, again in GP on Mack at Oxford is a liquor store that sells so many types of aged and rare scotch that I was amazed. Please to try.

54. Here in PA, where you have to buy your beer form a state operated store...
a case at a time, I find it VERY unfriendly to try a good beer, which I'll do maybe 2 to 3 per week end on occasion. I think it's a damn shame we can't sample a six pack of this or that.

What other beers might I find that are "good ales"?

18. It's never my first pick
Until recently, I'd never touch the stuff. Lately, I've actually enjoyed it a few times, but it's usually a handcrafted microbrew or something very fresh.

Usually, the higher the alcohol %, the better.

I'll have a beer once in a while to be social, but I could certainly live never having another sip. Same with wine, same with liquor.

But in the past couple of years I HAVE acquired a fancy for the occasional cigar... :hide:

mostly because I'm wheat sensitive and making it into alchohol still doesn't make it any easier to digest. Although, I do find some dark beers like Guiness to be tasty, I can't have them all the time.

Wine and other non-grain-based hard liquor is OK, though.

The closest thing to a beer I enjoyed was the famous Berliner Weisse (mit Schuss, of course, in my case; I have a sweet tooth). I had that on summer in what was then a divided Berlin. I liked the beer but loved the city.

42. Not as yet - from lack of trying
At some point in my youth, I could be found at this work party of my father's. He was being rewarded for many years of service to the local council. Anyway, from memory I recall him talking to some people by a table. I was near this table, upon which beer could be found in stubbies . I took a sip from one of these bottles and the vile taste was overwhelming.

Aside from that, I can't recall any time where I've bothered to indulge. I feel like trying sake though, but that's more because it's Japanese and I'm very passionate about a variety of 'stuff' to come from said nation. A bit of an immature obsession at times.

I used to get suckered in by the "fruity" drinks that taste more like punch than alcohol. This often lead to too much, too fast and many regrets.

Now I just stick to a glass of wine from time to time.

That one beer being one that I can't recommend to you right now, as it won't be available for about six month. Sam Adams Summer Ale.
