met w/the benefits lady | kiss health insurance goodbye!

found out it's going to cost $480 a MONTH to continue my current coverage or $330 for reduced coverage...

oh, and sweet, I have a pension! which I can begin collecting when I'm 65... if i live that long. my firm does not allow me to cash it out NOW when it might help with rent, food, or, uh, HEALTH COVERAGE!

i know there are MANY (even here at DU) who are in worse shape than me (so far) and THANK GOD i have no children to provide for but...

DAMN. my life is unraveling.

met with my IDIOT POS supervisor this morning to tell him I'd be out by the end of the week. he said with a BIT smirk: Oh, that's great!

I said: No, it's NOT great.

and walked out muttering the REST of my reply under my breath.

/rant over.

p.s.did you see that BOOB on CNN??? what was * talking about?

We are sending them to Congress. I wonder how that is going anyway?
Haven't heard from anyone here about it for a week.

4. I'm willing, but did I miss a PM?
Actually, for now I'm saving them for the ADA in case I go to Call to Congress, but either way, I'm in.

10. I might have missed a PM myself
But I haven't had any new ones. Liberalhistorian and loftycity and myself are looking for a webmaster right now. Haven't heard from them.
Visited Diabetesportal last week. Who are you on there?

And have you ever visited this site? http://www.iddtinternational.org/iddt.html

It's a good one.

15. EEK--I haven't posted in some time. I am known as limedress.
I offered to do the "webbing," but I've got too many plates in the air now. I would gladly help with writing copy (I'm an excellent writer and editor; I do strictly ghostwriting). I'm also pretty handy with graphics, if that would help.

Loftycity told me today we're looking for a webmaster to get it started so it will probaly be awhile. Thanks :)

2. While you are unemployed, can you get medicaid??
Do they have it in NY??

When we had to use COBRA, the premium was $780.00 a month for 3 of us, and that was 7 years ago :(...

Find yourself a "sugar-momma" and let her take care of you :)

I have my fingers crossed for you.. You are a talented guy, and I know things will break your way :)

6. Many states
are cutting medicaid rolls. I don't know if you as an individual would be able to get it but it is worth a try. Thanks to King George 11 many people are without insurance.

12. I Feel Ya
Last year we went from a solid CIgna plan to self-insurance. The benefits dropped substantially, and the co-pays for visits and drugs at least tripled. Still better than nothing, but my monthly fee is only like $40 for single coverage. I'm so sorry. Thank goodness Hillarycare didn't pass, huh? Good ol free-market will take great care of you! /sarcasm

16. Went on Cobra 2-1-04 -
I guess I should count my lucky stars - two adults, one child + $471.00 a month. But the unemployment is also running out soon. I feel your pain.

I don't know if this helps, but I have a number for UniCare (don't know if they have a web site or if this is available in your area.) It's for PPO, with preexisting exclusions for the first year. Other than that, I don't know too much about the coverage.

Prices may vary by zip code:

single male under 30 - $71; 30-34 - $80; 35-29 - $89; 40-44 - $109; 45-49 - $135; 50-54 - $153; 55-59 - $209; 60-64 - $277

single female under 30 - $84; 30-34 - $97; 35-39 - $112; 40-44 - $133; 45-49 - $153; 50-54 - $186; 55-59 - $209; 60-64 - $247

Sorry I don't have more information. I just saved the mail flier for future info. These are prices for San Antonio and Austin, but they may be nationwide.
