It's been downhill ever since.

But the Packers came in undefeated in 1962 after beating the Lions in Green Bay earlier that season on a bonehead Lions' quarterback play. My uncle took me to Tiger Stadium for the game (I was 11), and I have been a football fanatic ever since, and can't help being anything other than a (stinkin') Lions fan.

Anyway, they sacked Bart Starr 11 times. They can do it again! (If Bart Starr shows up and plays.)

Go Lions! Hope springs eternal. . .

2. I'm a Packers fan except when they play the Lions
Born and raised in Detroit, I gotta go with my homies. But, gotta love the Pack, and a town like Green Bay having such a storied franchise and such loyalty. In this era of Barry Bonds, it's good to have a team like the Pack around.

I just hope the Lions don't embarrass themselves (again) on Thanksgiving.

3. Was Bobby Lane still playing for the Lions then?

4. No, Layne was long gone. Milt Plum and Earl Morrall were the Lions' QBs
Bobby Layne was out by then - I think 1959, but I would have to look it up. It was before my time - I didn't start following the Lions until 1961, when I was 10. But Layne was definitely gone by then.

We haven't had a whole lot of Hall of Famers, but we have had some good ones.
