On Fourth and Bainbridge. I've read mixed reviews though I've heard that since the place has changed owners, it's actually good again.

1. It's very clean. . .
And the sandwiches are beyond huge..

The meat is very high quality and tasty.

The desserts are big enough to kill an ordinary person.

3. Thanks, G.
We went there yesterday and had an enjoyable meal. I had a corned beef and tongue sandwich and one of the group had the pastrami, both huge. Mine was quite nice, not too salty, a common failing. Her's was excellent. Especially tasty and tender. Quite possibly the best pastrami I've had. Needless to say, we all took half of our sandwiches home.

The deserts were way too large for any normal person, more fitting for a table full. I had an apricot rugalach which I liked.

We asked the waiter if we could get a normal sized sandwich even for an extra charge and he said no, this is what they did. He implied, as per a newspaper article quoting the owner, that if we didn't like it, we should stay home.

I can see going back there when we get back to the area and trying other stuff. Many thanks for the recommendation.

4. Glad you enjoyed it.
There are lots of really good restaurants in Philly. And some excellent bars as well. Try Chicks at 7th and South - say hello to my friend, Katie behind the bar. She comes up with some really excellent drink combos.

If you like tapas, come up to Northern Liberties and drop into Bar Ferdinand on north 2nd Street. New Italian BYOB on Girard Avenue between 2nd and Front - Modo Mio - 4 courses - $30, cash only - Call for reservations - they're packed. Standard Tap 2nd and Brown for really excellent burgers and other great pub food.

Or if you have to stay in Center City go to Reading Terminal Market for lunch.

5. Many thanks for the tips, G.

I'll be sure and keep this list and check it for currency the next time I plan a trip to Philly. God only knows when that'll be.

Best regards.

6. Fyi, a great middle eastern restaurant.

Just down the block from Jim's and The Famous, Aliyan's, if you don't already know it. As good as it gets. Ciao.
