Where is your "Happy Place?"
These days, the only place I feel normal and okay with myself is when i am in the bookstore.

How about you? Where is your happy place? That special place you like being?

Either physically, or just in your memories, we all have a place...

Where's yours?

:hi:

Most recently, my happy place was about 40 miles off the paved road in Modoc County between Tulelake and Alturas. :)

In 1966 Dad was still alive, and Mom and Dad were in love.

Nothing to do when you're 4 years old, but run around and play with your friends all day.

And, Cybill Shepherd used to be my baby sitter before she started to get famous.

...good times.

We moved away all too soon.

We vacationed there as a family a few times and haven't been back in too many years. Was able to take our lab there once and let her run the beach. It was perfect. Haystack (the big rock in the distance) is wonderful to contemplate at a distance or explore its tide pools up close at low tide.

I also had a number of people ask me for directions or suggestions on what to do or where to eat while I was there. Guess I looked like I belonged.

65. Summers at the cottage.
The happy thoughts that carry me through each dreary Indiana winter are memories of the previous summers and the ones to come on Thayer Lake.

I've found time to upload some of my photos to Photobucket this weekend so, I'll share a couple from my happy place.

The welcoming front door to my happy place... where friends and family gather.

Dangling my feet in the cool water of Thayer Lake while reading a great book takes me to a very happy place.

But, by far, my most happy place is hearing the calls of the loons echo across the lake at dusk while sitting around a bonfire with Mr. Green Meanie, a few good friends, our kids, and the dogs after a long day of playing on the water.

72. Stonehenge
(where the demons dwell, where the banshees live and they do live well...) :hi: temeah, if you're there! ;)

Seriously, though. When I was 17 I took an archaeology class at the University of Cambridge in England, and our class got to go inside the stone circle - something that virtually nobody gets to do anymore. :) It was amazing, and I think I used up about three rolls of film on pictures from just about every possible angle inside...but the thing I remember most was the fact that even though it had been a cold, cloudy, overcast & windy day, the stones themselves were warm to the touch. :wtf: It was pretty bizarre...and definitely awesome. :) So when I'm stressed out or need a mental "vacation," I often imagine that I'm back inside Stonehenge. There's something comforting about the solidity and mysterious warmth of those ancient stones. :hi:

:) I have to admit, though, that even when I was outside of Stonehenge (we split into two groups and took turns to go inside the circle) I was really excited too...because I figured I was probably pretty close to the spot where The Beatles performed for the movie Help! :P Yep, I'm a huge nerd. :hi:

75. Seeing that I can't be in the woods or on top of a mountain, it's on my bike.
Or having loud R&R blasting in my ears.

76. I am so tempted to reply with 'your mom'... but I'll be serious instead. :)
I don't think I have a physical place that makes me feel 'happy'. I think I feel most at home when I am with people who can understand me. And when I'm alone, I'm most at home when I'm creating.

Anyplace else and I have to deal with unemployed son, dying mother in nursing home, a dysfunctional workplace.

84. Watching some guy shake his butt in his bookstore window as he packs books.
I'm straight, but the chaps, assless by definition, are somehow mesmerizing.

I keed.

87. Building hot rods and Muscle Cars bolt by bolt in my mind
when the stress is high or I'm laying in bed trying to go to sleep.

I just built a mean 98 Tahoe 2dr with a 330HP crate motor and 5 speed R6 auto. 22" Wheels. Pearl white like the Lexus color.

Haven't driven it yet. Got to find a highway in my mind not crowded with traffic.

89. In my garden.
Planting and watching the plants grow is very satisfying for me. Plus, the mindlessness of weeding allows my mind to drift to other places...

93. The quietest part of the downtown campus library...
It's part of the ORIGINAL library... built around 1900. The wood paneling is warm and cozy, and the overall mood of the room is serious, but in a positive way.

I go there when i want to get down to some serious reading... knowing that the creepy bust of Dante' will be staring at me the whole time, discouraging me from wasting valuable time.

I love it in there...
