17. It can stand for whatever you want it to stand for ;)
I know it wasn't the reason I got divorced, but it was a "period" (or many of them) in the marriage that I did not like having to suffer through. I know it was worse for her, but I still got plenty of emotional turmoil out of it, too.

3. And I've heard it said that of the half that stays married,
half of them should end it. They end up suffering in silence, guilt, and desperation rather than leave.

7. As if they win a prize to go with their coffin
marking off the days with this smug kind of false pride. Puffed up and bitter. Yeah...right.

12. Well just think, if they stick it out they get a punch and cake celebration
at church, their picture in the newspaper, an announcement on the radio. I mean god, you can't pass that up. :eyes:

15. One timer here...............
But if it's once or twice or even more the most important thing is to learn from those mistakes. God, I know what you mean about saner. This feeling of finally being out is like heaven. Cake and champagne sounds good to me. :)

4. This is without gays and lesbians being allowed
to marry! So, what is the REAL threat to the "sacred" institution of marriage.

18. I've always wondered about that statistic. For instance, if you
break it down by age:

How many of these marriages include people that marry before the age of say, 25? I bet in the older groups the statistic is much smaller. I think a good portion of that 50% is a bunch of young, impatient kids and people that got knocked up. :P

19. I wondered too

I think people should wait till 30-something before getting married. Too many hormones and superficiality before that.

I told my kids to wait till they're at least 32. Don't know why I picked that age.

20. I waited until I was 36

and she was 39 (technically, almost a year later for the getting married part.) Still, it only lasted 7 years, 7 months. We met online, but other "issues" crept in later and she left. I would have stuck it out and gotten counseling, but it was too late for her as her mind was made up.

We're still very good friends, but remarrying is out of the question at this time...

21. If people get married for the wrong reasons and don't kindle the fire
Oddly enough, arranged marriages have an unbelievably high success rate. You have to wonder if they really are happy or if they just find a way to make it work.
