GET THE LED OUT.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/10/arts/music/11zeppelin.html

Aaaaaaahhhh...

"The excitement in the hall felt extreme, and genuine; the crowd roars between encores were ravenous. At the end of it all, as the three original members took a bow, Mr. Bonham knelt before them and genuflected."

1. I spent all night looking for clips of the concert. I was lucky enough to find a few, they were very
good. I found a full version of Good Times/Bad Times and a full version of Stairway to Heaven. I also heard a significant clip of For Your Life. They are def back in full swing. I can't wait to see the DVD of this concert and I hope they're going to announce a full tour, or at least a limited one that I can get into.

6. I know there was no mention about putting this concert out on DVD or PPV
I think Jimmy wanted to see how it turned out first. If they sucked he would have done something like Live Earth and just banished the performance forever.

From the clips I've seen and the reviews I've read - they were very very far from sucking.

This concert needs to be shared with the world!

7. They didn't want a PPV, but there was def a statement that it would be out on DVD. If you check the
main forum on ledzeppelin.com, you'll easily find the link to that, I can't link it for you right now. They didn't of course give an ETA, but it will eventually be on DVD.

10. I think it's a shame on PPV - they're still thinking of outdated technology
Page never thought that LZ translated well on the TV, but during LZ's heydey they didn't have the gigantic big screen TVs with surround sound.

But then again putting it on TV limits it to the people who have access to those channel whereas the DVD is much more readily available.

Just get it out there quickly Jimmy! We all want to see the concert and NOT from bad Youtube clips

13. Well, you have to admit after LiveAid and the Atlantic Records gig that it would be hard to have
faith in everything sounding right on TV. I'm just hoping that Knebworth'79 isn't any indication of how long it will take for this one to show up on DVD.

It's just my opinion, based on nothing, but I feel that Page wanted to play it really safe and shelter Robert. I think Robert is the only one holding up a full blown reunion and is wary of not being able to pull it off. The songs were stepped down to accomodate his voice and the gig was only 20,000 seats. They didn't go off the beaten path at all, no long drawn out jams, no screams. Just a straightforward concert of all the classics.

3. Here's a true comment about Zep
from one of the vids that Lynnesin posted:

This really puts things in perspective...
Bands like Fallout Boy and Greenday couldn't even lick the groupie cum off the bottom of these guys shoes...

So true.

11. Like MTv when Floyd was doing Comfortably Numb and they cut to
the douchebag on the left going "oh this is so awesome, I'm watching Pink Floyd live doing Comfortably Numb!"

I wanted to make him permanently numb.

26. Well at least we got the complete concerts the next week
I didn't get to see "Numb" on TV - I was probably driving home that night from the Philly concert. But I remember everyone ranting about the cut.

That was the main reason I bought the Live Earth DVD - just for that set of 4 songs!

:grr:  :banghead: You DO NOT interrupt/talk over rock legends performing onstage, especially if said rock legends are playing together for the first time in 20+ years, and especially when two of them hate each other and aren't likely to play together ever again. :nuke: Idiots.

8. After watching the You Tube videos I will admit..
Page, Jones and Bonham sound pretty damned good. But I still can't get past Plant's voice. Even thought they dropped the music down a step he still isn't hitting the notes. Sorry Zep fans, I really try to like them but Robert Plant ruins it for me every time. I'm happy for you though because I know that this was a long time coming.

9. You have GOT to stop assuming that Robert is a typical singer
many time his voice is a duet that goes with Jimmy's guitar. I never thought of Plant as your typical vocalist. Once you stop typcasting him with every other frontperson you might learn to appreciate what exactly he is doing.

BTW - check out Raising Sand - definately not your typical Robert Plant

14. Sorry Lynne
Not to be a dick here, but I have a pretty decent understanding of what vocalists do. I have been playing music and singing for over 30 years, I have worked in the recording studio for over 15 years producing rock, rap, bluegrass, blues, metal, folk, R&B, Gospel, punk and everything in between, I have vinyl, tapes and CDs that number well over a thousand (I'd say closer to two) ranging from Zeppelin to Dion and the Belmonts to P.J. Proby to Tina Turner to John Mayer to The Grateful Dead to The Groundhogs to Count Basie to Broadway soundtracks to Alice In Chains to Paul Anka to Tex Ritter and .

I'm not saying that my opinion is the end-all because that's just stupid. But it is still my opinion that Robert Plant's voice hurts my ears. Seriously, I have almost all of their albums and even some bootleg stuff and I listened over and over but have not been able to get past his sound. Although I am not a huge Jimmy Page fan, I respect what he has done. I think Bonham and Jones are very close to the top of what they did, but that screeching, wailing and out of key singing that Plant does just blows the whole deal for me.

I don't "typecast" any artist. Personally I take them for what they are and what my personal tastes are. I always give credit where credit is due, even to performers that I don't personally like, but I find nothing of interest in Plant.

17. If you have worked in the music business that long, then you should know
Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 11:50 AM by Joe Fields
that a large percentage of singers are not quality vocalists.

Realistically speaking, what can you expect from a 59 year old? People didn't come to see a phenomenal "vocalist." They came to see Robert Plant and the boys. He has paid his dues, and he has made an everlasting mark in rock music. No one, I think expects him to have the voice he once had. He was never a balladeer. And I mean, of course, to each his own. I don't need to stick up for Robert Plant. His contribution to my generation speaks for itself.

Personally, I would give my right testicle to see them in person again.

29. I don't think he's typecasting him with other frontpersons
I think he's typecasting him with the front person he used to be.... and Plant isn't what he used to be.

Sometimes you just can't go back.

I like Zep too... but if they can't be Zep anymore, then I'm glad they're doing other stuff. Plant is wise to avoid a reunion tour and to stick w/ his new ventures.

23. I told a friend if they tour I'm trying for tickets at any and all stops in the States
those I don't use I could easily sell but I want to know I see them at least once.

And from what I learned from those Page/Plant concert years - they don't play the same set each night. My other Holy Grail song is "What is and What Should Never Be", which they played the second show in Philly

"What is and What Should Never Be" yeah, that's one I'd love to see live. My others include, "The Rover", "Tea for One", and "The Battle of Evermore", if they could find someone that would do the Sandy Denny part justice.
