Can taking fish oil capsules make you nauseous?
I've ben taking two big honkin' ones every morning and something is making my stomach hurt. Just wondering if they can cause this?

1. Not sure but they taste horrible
I take one pill a day and routinely leave them in a bowl I leave out at night to use the next morning for my granola and yogurt. One very hectic morning I forgot the pills (fish oil and a multi-vitamin) were in the bowl, I filled it up and started woofing down my breakfast. Midchew about halfway through I thought "WHat they heck is making this granola taste fishy?"

Not pleasant. :)

Sorry you had to experience that, though.

3. Yes, that's a common side effect.
I always take mine with food to minimize gastrointestinal issues.

4. Yes
You may want to get the enteric coated ones so they don't break up until they exit the stomach (however, they are more expensive...what else is new??)

11. I've never seen fish oil come in tablet form. In fact....
....vitamins/supplements of any kind should be in capsule or liquigel/softgel form, because 1. they're easier on your stomach, and 2. your body is more likely to actually absorb the nutrients you're giving it (you may simply pass the tablet before it breaks down enough for your body to absorb anything).

12. Not true
absorbtion of nutrients take place AFTER it passes through the bottom of your stomach through to the small intestine. The small intestine is where the most extensive part of digestion occurs. Most food products and nutrients are absorbed there (that's why there are 20 FEET of small intestine.)

15. That's not a tablet, that's a sofgel.
And when I say you body has a tendency to pass tablets without their being totally broken down, I mean PASS. Out of the body, into the toilet. BEFORE the small intestine fully absorbs the nutrients.

Tablets are the least desirable form for any kind of supplement.

10. Almost any vitamin or supplement..
... can cause stomach upset. I assume you are taking them with or after food, that usually helps.

Try this instead - very little bad taste. Its like a great salad oil:

The capsules (esp if they are inexpensive) are typically rancid. Storing in the freezer helps.... a little.

17. Take 'em with food
That's what I do. Otherwise you'll not only get sick to your stomach, you'll probably get fish breath, too.
