Peter Jackson and New Line agreed to make the film version of JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit.

great news.

Maybe they can get Elijah Wood to play Bilbo now, sort of like how the guy that played Bilbo in the movies was Frodo in the excellent BBC radio version of LotR.

Unless this is Jackson's way of sneaking in Tom Bombadil and the Scouring of the Shire!

4. I don't see how he could work in the Scouring of the Shire
because that's so tied up with the plot of LotR. But good call on Tom Bombadil - you could work a fair amount of that section in fairly easily, I'd think. 2 films does seem excessive for a book smaller than any part of LotR.

Is there a single female character in The Hobbit apart from the brief appearance of Lobelia Sackville-Baggins? I think Jackson is going to have to rewrite the story more than he did for LotR.
