Squawkers McCaw Toy--Question?

My son is absolutely in love with birds. I absolutely object to having a real bird trapped in a cage for its entire life, especially, tropical birds that ought to stay in their native habitat, and I object to having a real bird for personal comfort reasons such as smell and noise. We've gone past Squawkers so many times now, and he loves to play with it in the aisle. Has anyone had any experience with this relatively new toy? Is he worth the price tag? I have this strange feeling that he will drop in price after Christmas.
