car stereo question
My wife has a 2006 Ford Escape Limited. She likes listening to her Ipod during her commute. The problem is that she has to use a FM modulator and that requires changing channels when she gets into areas where a radio station has that frequency. The stereo has an auxiliary button and is satellite ready. What she wants to know is can she have an auxiliary jack installed so she can plug her Ipod into the stereo and what does she have to do to listen to satellite radio. Does she have to have the XM or Sirius equipment installed by a car stereo shop or is the equipment already there and all she needs to do is have it activated.

2. A) it's possible B) it's unlikely
Nothing is preventing car and stereo manufacturers from making a simple "line-in" like every other ****ing audio device has, but the refuse to do it.

Now, if her stereo was bought at an aftermarket place, it might well have one. If it's from the factory, it almost certainly does not.

It's an '06 Saturn Ion, and I use that thing all the time- iPods, satellite radio, audio for my GPS (so I can hear the turn by turn directions better), and audio for my son's DVD player (so he can hear Spongebob better) :)

spelling edit, plus I found a photo of it. red text of shame :(

3. Probably not on the ipod (but ask the dealer) definitely on the sat radio.
The upside is that she can get a much nicer than stock stereo with an ipod adapter (Alpine is best for working with an ipod, IMO) and satellite radio for not much more (and maybe less, they tend to gouge like crazy on stock stereo ad-ons) than getting the aftermarket parts to work her gear with her existing stereo.

4. I use a really old school method
I use one of those cassette adaptors and plug it into my mp3 player headphone jack.

Course, that assumes you have a cassette player in the car.

Dunno about the satellite question.

5. Maybe
Start here: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-sziuBOe2BlQ/app/product/category/groupmenu.aspx?g=247250&cc=01&wm=tn

Crutchfield knows everything and has everything.

Failing that, tell me where you live and I'll find the unused FM frequencies in your area.
