A physics lesson for motorists
A bicycle traveling downhill can easily attain speeds of 30 mph+. Don't assume that just because someone is on a bike it means that they're traveling at a snail's pace.

Please keep that in mind when you're trying to decide if the maneuver that you're about to attempt is "safe."

Thank you.

ps: Whoever was in the black Honda at the intersection of Hawthorne and Knollwood this morning owes me a new pair of pants. The ones that I was wearing today got rather soiled when you cut in front of me.

I hope you burn in hell you selfish, careless shit for brains.

1. Drivers who don't give right of way to bikes, or do dangerous things, should be shot on sight.
They piss me off.

I don't know what it is in America that some people think bike riders or bike riding is communist or unAmerican, and that they need to be harassed, or that they don't deserve respect in any way.

At the same time, bikers (and pedestrians) that dart out between parked cars in the middle of a block in order to cross a busy street should also be allowed to be run over.

4. One week after implementing that at least one quarter of all drivers would be dead
Which might not be such a bad thing

5. I wouldn't mind. We need some kind of serious reduction of the ignorant in this country.
Taking us back to a population of 100,000,000 smarter people might not be all bad.

6. I've also contaminated my knickers
When bicyclists or runners shot through stop signs or red lights just in front of me. They may be healthier than I am, but I suspect I'll live a lot longer.

We need to show mutual respect. Come to think of it, that's not a bad all-around philosophy.

7. I did that once. That was enough
Emergency rooms are too damned expensive and I have better things to do with my time.

3. I've often found, while doing the speed limit in Rock Creek Park...
on Beach Drive, which is, for the most part, level ground, that the cyclers are maintaining the same speed.
