What the heck is up with the Grammys?
Does anyone take this awards show seriously? How can you when they give best metal performance to Metallica for St. Anger, universally recognized as a new low in their career? Or how about Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake winning awards when they're nothing but good looking kids with good production on their side? Even Album of the Year is a joke because no one even ****ing listens to Outkast to begin with.

The Grammys seriously suck.

You cant be serious...

I agree about Metallica, that is just sad...

But its an award show which is just a happy, ass grabbing, circle jerk of professional industry jerk offs....it isnt indicative of anything...

3. No. No one listens to that annoying group.
I am a senior in a high school that is mostly black, which means that I hear all sorts of rap music being played from loud headphones and from cars with amazing bass systems. I have never heard nor know of anyone there who listens to Outkast. It must be some upper-class, Republican-pushed thing to get kids to stop listening to "that hip hop stuff" as Bill O'Reilly puts it.

4. NARAS totally sucks.
The recording industry's war against its customers over digital music transfer is so counterproductive they deserve to sink into the economic tar pits, as they will unless they move toward the iTunes business model quickly.

BTW, have you checked Outcast's sales numbers? Somebody is listening.

Justin winning Male Vocal over George Harrison and Warren Zevon is pretty much the defining indictment of the validity of the awards.

I just watch for the performances. The Prince/Beyonce duo was pretty spectacular to me, but I'm an old school Price fan since "Soft and Wet".

7. Outkast is crap.
Once upon a time rap music conveyed a political message (e.g. Public Enemy), but now it's just commercial trash because the repukelican record labels wouldn't have any of it.

14. and LONG long before that...
People made rap just for fun.
It was just another way of expressing music.
Gangsta rap and other sorts that shove the message down your throat runied it for most people.
For a while it was something that just about anyone could enjoy if they were so inclined.
The "message" rap made it less possible to enjoy.

When will we all, awake up out this dream
Come here and smell the Folgers, the soldiers are human beings
Man actin as if he was the supreme bein
Clockin the souls of men out like he was G-O-D and

Politicians, modern day magicians
Physicians of death, more health care for poor health
Who makin us ill, they makin us kill
That's makin me spill my guts (chill Big, lay in the cut)
For what? I refuse to sit in the backseat and get handled

To dampen the dream of all the Panthers
They got they answer for ransom
As we read together, as we dream together
Count your blessings whenever you feel that things won't be no better

9. Celebrities - Sick of them all!
I was just pondering this morning the possible collective IQ of Grammy winners. The only shocking thing to come out of this bunch is their obsession with breasts.

I am old - music had a golden era when people rallied around political lyrics and good musicians. We took a stand on things and wouldn't you know - things did change. An unpopular war was stopped and Civil Rights were enshrined in law.

Christina may have an odd image (to be nice) but she has a killer voice. She's no Brittany (all looks and no talent).

The kicker for me was the life time achievement awards. How many did they give? 10? 15? We kept joking around that soon they would be giving those out to last year's new artist winner. Release 2 cds? Get a life time achievement award. Have a top 10 hit? Lifetime achievement award. Show a tit? Sorry, we can't even say your name. Sad sad sad, indeed.

15. the grammies were never of any significance
Think about it. It took like, 30 years, for Dylan to get a Grammy? I think we can hazard a guess that Dylan made more of a contribution to popular music and how it is performed than, say, Justin Timberlake?

People like Christopher Cross or Beyonce getting the Grammy is par for the course. It is not an award for "best" music. It is an award for most commercial trash and is best ignored if you actually like music because it is guaranteed to disgust the thinking person.

16. Timberlake has a really odd singing voice...
I don't know how quite to describe his voice. But it's got a very puny, prissy, wussy, "I'm an unweaned baby" sound to it. No wonder he ripped off Janet Jackson's shirt at the Super Bowl... :eyes: Sheesh, even the Americal Idol singers, who all sing in the same trite tone, sound better... I can't believe he won an award at all.

20. Jesus, slow down a bit there
I didn't mean literally no one listens to it. I meant that they deserve to have no one listen to it. It was a subjective statement masquerading as an objective hyperbolic fact.

Outkast sucks. O'Reilly is promoting their type of rap because it's politically correct for WASP ears. There is no controversial image or message in it. Hell give me 2Pac's "bitches, drugs, and hos" over this new PC crap. At least "gangsta" rap is socially relevant, not fucking bar-mitzvah music.

27. Do you have even the remotest clue what you're talking about?
Outkast has a parental advisory sticker on their CD....it ain't clean, anti-nafta. And O'Reilly has never, and will never, promote them or any band like them.

And your lame attempt to back off of your Outkast comment is contradicted by your own words:

"no one even ****ing listens to Outkast to begin with."

That's hardly the same as saying nobody should listen to Outkast.

I really don't understand your vitriol over the group--they're quite good, and the album is intelligently done (bordering on being a "concept" album). Hell, they even have a few politically oriented tunes where they take shots at Bush.

40. Meanwhile...
here's the best that heavy metal had to offer us this year:

"St. Anger"
St. Anger 'round my neck
St. Anger 'round my neck
He never gets respect
St. Anger 'round my neck

You flush it out, you flush it out
St. Anger 'round my neck
St. Anger 'round my neck
You flush it out, you flush it out
He never gets respect

Fuck it all and no regrets
I hit the lights on these dark sets
I need a voice to let myself
To let myself go free
Fuck it all and fuckin' no regrets
I hit the lights on these dark sets
Medallion noose, I hang myself
St. Anger 'round my neck

I feel my world shake
Like an earth quake
It's hard to see clear
Is it me? Is it fear?

I'm madly in anger with you

And I want my anger to be healthy
And I want my anger just for me
And I need my anger not to control
And I want my anger to be me

And I need to set my anger free

Set it free

Compare and contrast.
