130. Name was Jim.
I thought it was funny, how Marlin Perkins would say, "Jim and I wrestle the huge reptile." And there would be a shot of Marlin, looking through binoculars at something in a setting that had nothing to do with the episode in question. And our hero Jim? It would show him (with Marlin nowhere in sight) getting his ass kicked by an enormous anaconda or crocodile that was about to drag him underwater to feed him to their evil spawn.

"Jim and I", huh huh. I don't think Jim had such a good job.

35. Nuclear Physicist
I remember one of our neighbors worked at "Atomics International" and he took me there once and I got to put my hands in the gloves behind the glass shields and I was really stoked on the whole Atomic thing, as was the rest of America at the time (1956). I got a really positive reaction when I said I wanted to be a nuclear physicist so it kind of imprinted on me. So that's what I told my teachers . It was the earliest time I remember thinking "hey, these teacher folks are really impressionable; all I have to do is figure out what they want to hear and I'm IN." It actually became my school system.

Of course there were no professional surfers then or that would have been my choice.

37. I, a paleontologist. Did I spell that right? ...
...Ironically, I ended up being a writer and editor, so I shouldn't even need to ask. Back then, dinosaurs were my passion. (I still love them.) Probably (looking back on it) I was also attracted to a life that seemed to involve going into the Gobi desert, or some such place, with a pick-ax and small brushes. Away from civilization. And from people.

69. You should sign up as a dig volunteer...
... many digs need people to do the grunt work - you know digging and sifting and such. You could choose paleontology or archaeology - any era or period you like.

I had a chance to dig for dinos in Mongolia, but I couldn't because of health... but you should check up on digs there, as there's lots of great fossils in that region. For a more affordable alternative, there are tons of expeditions in the High Plains of WY.

When I was about three, I always said that I wanted to be "an army". An entire army, I guess. Only later did I modify to "army guy". My grandad gave me his army uniform hat from WWII - that's pretty good. My dad also gave us old army cloathes of his to wear when we played, though by a certain age my dad told all of us kids that under no circumstances were we even allowed to join the army. Sure, maybe he didn't want us to die, but maybe he just wanted to give us stories about how hard life was for him in the army knowing we'd never have nothing to compare to it.

I wanted to be Mrs. Klein when I grew up. But I didn't want her "floppy arms". Now, I'm afraid I'll be like Mrs. Klein when I grow up. :)

Love dogs... always wanted a dog farm, with all kinds of dogs ( instead of farm animals )... Although farm animals are o.k..... they just aren't as cute and cuddly as dogs... and I wouldn't want them (farm animals) in the bed with me either.

Between Maxwell Smart and James Bond, I *knew* what the future had in store for me. But here I am, in my tiny little office pretending to manage two dozen typesetters... not quite the environment of exotic locales, bikini clad models and gin martinis I expected from my youth.

But since I don't really like to touch, view, smell, or hear guns-- maybe it's all for the best!

Don't laugh. It was that, teacher/librarian, nurse, singer/dancer(ballerina)/actress, nun, cook, nanny, seamstress, maid, and wife/mother in those days. Maybe I missed one or two, but very limited choices pre-feminism.

I liked the wardrobe, the wealth, and the idea of kissing handsome princes.
