I have my first epidural steroid injection tomorrow - will it hurt?

Supposedly they'll give me Versed beforehand. I hope so. I don't want to know ANYTHING ABOUT that needle going into my back. Help me!!! :scared: :scared: :scared:

1. Don't dwell on it...

But trust me..It can't be worse than the bone marrow biopsy I had a couple of years ago.. a really long needle going into my pelvic BONE....:scared:
BTW, just think about how much better your back will feel afterward...

3. Yikes - you're right - that must have been scary!

I hope it feels better. I have to have at least one more of these after tomorrow and perhaps two, as I have a large disc herniation, a smaller one and what I believe is even a third disc trying to make a run for it. I've had two colonoscopies and had Versed or something like it with those, and I appreciated the effects.

2. Had one a few years

ago for what my doc (brat from hell) called a "menopausal migraine". The Versed is good...you won't remember a thing, but the "good stuff". Promise :hug:

5. My mother had a series of injections and got through it without problems

The first time they did a twilight anesthetic and she had a little bit of discomfort, the second time she was knocked out briefly and felt nothing. There was very little post injection discomfort either time. If you're diabetic, make sure you talk to your doctor about the effects on your blood sugar, if he or she hasn't brought it up already.

7. Thanks - they did ask me if I'm diabetic, and I'm not

I'm told the doctor wants me to do absolutely nothing for at least 36 hours afterward - I'm hoping it won't hurt too much. They also said I could use ice for any discomfort. Should probably pick up a few packages of frozen peas tonight! As I mentioned in another reply, I'll have to have at least two of these, if not three. Glad your mom didn't have any problems - is she feeling good now?

8. Arrrggghhh!! I shouldn't complain (but I do)

I know so many people have much worse problems than I do. I wish I wasn't becoming such a wuss about needles - I never was before. Just the thought of it going into my spine - yikes! (no, I don't have kids - never been through the epidural thing). :hug:
