3. Well, duh
He's only like a GOD. :P

When I was getting into photography in 1980, we'd look at his work and just go "Gah! HOW does he get those tones?!?"

Know what really eats at me, though? I lived like 25 miles from him, and he was in the freakin' book!

:banghead:

6. Yup
In the freaking Telephone Directory. Y'know, like a Regular Person.

I saw a thing about him on teevee back then. In part of it, he was working in the darkroom in his house; that's how I found out he lived in Carmel. So I thought, "Hmmmm..." and looked him up.

Adams Ansel

And. I. never. called.

10. It had two meanings, actually
The obvious — there's a hell of a lot more to "black and white" photography than black and white.

The esoteric — "shades of gray" is also a way of looking at life, rather than in black and white.

The Monkees had a song called "Shades of Gray." Remember it?

11. yes. I remember. Timely Song --

By barry mann and cyntha weil

When the world and I were young,
Just yesterday.
Live was such a simple game,
A child could play.
It was easy then to tell right from wrong.
Easy then to tell weak from strong.
When a man should stand and fight,
Or just go along.

But today there is no day or night
Today there is no dark or light.
Today there is no black or white,
Only shades of gray.

I remember when the answers seemed so clear
We had never lived with doubt or tasted fear.
It was easy then to tell truth from lies
Selling out from compromise
Who to love and who to hate,
The foolish from the wise.

But today there is no day or night
Today there is no dark or light.
Today there is no black or white,
Only shades of gray.

It was easy then to know what was fair
When to keep and when to share.
How much to protect your heart
And how much to care.

But today there is no day or night
Today there is no dark or light.
Today there is no black or white,
Only shades of gray.
Only shades of gray.

12. Heh, when I was in college, everyone in the art dept looked down on Ansel
His style was too, ummm, let's say formulaic.

Also, art students don't give a hoot about technique. There was an attitude that the zone system was for people that didn't have a vision but liked the technology.
