I installed the Windoze XP Service Pack THREE (3) RC 2 tonight
Edited on Sun Mar-23-08 08:52 PM by DainBramaged
on one of my older computers out of the basement pile (AMD Athlon 2200 Internet appliance). 315 MB download total.

I didn't notice any major changes and after checking software and drivers, I can't seem to understand what functionality they improved for the average guy (Joe Sixpack, Ed Lunchbucket, Billy Bluecollar), but server applications have had security tightened.

Offers more descriptive text to explain the settings and prevent incorrect configuration of settings

I wonder if it will screw up my games man????

PS:
It didn't screw up the clients for my on line games I installed on that computer so there is hope.

5. Agreed, but Vista is like Windoze Me, short lived piece of shit
They will wake up soon enough. And Service Pack 2 for Vista has problems, many of the drivers ar crap. They should have left well enough alone.

7. Resistance is futile
I read (somewhere? Computerworld?) that MS is dropping sales of XP, probably Apr 09. So Vista will be unavoidable.

I'm still fighting with audio drivers for mine (vista sp1). The system goes mute at times. And some software knocks the video back to basic mode, out of "aero" (not as big a deal).

I'm hoping Microsoft will come out with "Microsoft Bob for Vista", to make things easier for dummies like myself. :)

:hi:

6. Cue the Vista Rant...
I tried to install Sid Meir's Railroads on my new laptop the other day. The speed is like an old woman. It simply doesn't work properly with Vista.

God I hate the OS. If it wasn't a new laptop, I would have deleted it and installed XP SP2

8. It plays just fine on this XP computer (sorry, fun game)
as do all of the Railroad Tycoon series (including the original in Dosbox) And I don't think Microsoft is going to be able to halt XP sales next year, corporate America won't take the plunge to Vista.

9. Possibly some compatibility issue with the NVIDIA card
IT's still bloody irritating!

Also, my copy of NERO doesn't work properly either! :grr:

And yes, thats a non-pirated version... :(

It's now completely useless.

10. Often I download and install archived versions of Nvidia drivers
rather than the newer ones for older games. But I also JUST rebuilt an OLD Gateway 1.0 gHZ PIII desktop with Windoze 98 to play old dos games again. Paid $14.95 on Ebay and it runs great. And I HATE Nero, intrusive and resource hogging.
