I need some minor tech help
Seems that, aside from politics, DU is a great resource for information on just about anything so...

My wife is starting a business with a friend who lives in another city and they would like to be able to access each others computer files remotely. I know there must be software that facilitates this sort of thing but I have no idea what to look for. It needs to be uncomplicated as none of us are wizzes although one of us IS a wise ass, and cheap or free would be nice.

Any thoughts?

1. You need a virtual private network. If you're using Windows, they
have a wizard. It will be peer to peer or you can designate one a server.

What operating systems are you using? If Windows, what version?

4. Well, on my system, starting w/Run Help, I type in
Virtual Private Network. The first option returned under Pick a task is Make a VPN connection

That starts the wizard. It'll ask many questions ... I'll be here to respond or you can take this to PM.

3. Another option is MS Office "Groove"
This allows everything from file and calendar sharing to instant messaging, notepads for sharing odds & ends, discussion threads, etc.

My business partner is in Florida and I'm in CT - and we use it all day every day. Works on XP and Vista. I think it can be purchased separately, but I got it as part of my Office 2007 suite.

5. Free online storage website.
You could also try an online storage site.

Both of these have free options.

Microsoft's online storage:
http://skydrive.live.com/

or

http://www.elephantdrive.com/
