One of the most precious memories of my life
12 years ago I gave birth to my first child. As is normal with a first baby, it was a long labor and I was in a lot pain and very scared. Amid the hectic comings and goings of doctors and nurses, there was a lull. My husband had gone to get some dinner and it was just my mom and me in the room. She held my hand and tried to comfort me. There was this little song she would sing to me as a child, whenever I was upset or not feeling well. It had been many, many years since I'd heard the song. She sat there and sang to me and took me away from the pain and fear. She sang to her baby, as I had my baby. I will remember it for the rest of my life.

This is the song she sang.

She's been gone almost 3 years now, and I miss her so much.

2. Thank you
She was an amazing person. It's hard the closer it gets to Mother's day. It brings so many memories of her.

8. I feel the same way
Even though I'm "the mom" now, not a day goes by that I don't wish I could hear her call me "baby girl" one more time.

5. My dear Spacemom...
Ah, what a beautiful memory, and a beautiful song!

Just imagine what singing that song meant to your mom...to be able to help you at such a moment...

As she watched you transition from womanhood to motherhood...

No wonder you miss her, sweetie...

9. I know
it's probably not the type of story that people come here looking for. I've just had her so much on my mind, it came bubbling out.

6. Those sweet memories sustain us and help us through...
What a sweet story. I'm sorry for the loss of your Mom. I can only imagine since I'm lucky enough to still have mine. But, she's sick now so I think about losing her often. She's the only parent/grandparent that I have left so I do know how hard loss is.

My best wishes and  for you.

10. Thank you
I'm so glad that your mom got to see and meet your baby. My mom died 4 years before we adopted our daughter and never got to see her. What a wonderful memory to cherish.

11. I can't get youtube.... what is the song?
This is my first Mother's Day without my Mom.

Last year, she was so sick, but we took her out for lunch anyhow. I didn't know then how little time we had left with her.

13. The song is "Galway Bay"
Galway Bay

If you ever go across the sea to Ireland
be it only at the closing of your days
You can sit and watch the moon rise over Claddagh
And see the sun go down on galway bay

Just to hear again the ripple of the trout-stream
The women in the meadows making hay
For to sit beside at her fire in a cavern
And watch the bare-foot gossems at their play.

Oh the breeze is blowing o'er the sea from Ireland
Are perfumed by the heather as they blow
And the women in the uplands digging ??????
Speak a language that the strangers do not know.

Oh, the strangers came and tried to teach us their ways
They scorned us just for being what we are
But they might as well go chasing after moonbeams
Or light a penny candle from a star.

And if there's going to be a life hereafter
As somehow I feel sure there's going to be
I will ask my God to let me make my heaven
In that dear land across the Irish Sea.

The first Mother's day is hard.

12. That made me cry.
I'm still fresh from the loss of my mom, but I still remember some special moments like that with her.

Than you for sharing.
