A new kitty
My wife and I got a new kitty last night, mostly because I wanted one.

The problem is we also have another cat that we've had for six months or so, and he doesn't seem to like the new one. I want the older one to accept the new little one.

Any thoughts on how to make the transition a little easier?

The new kitty is 10 weeks old. The old kitty is six months and has been here the whole time.

1. Keep new kitty in a room by her/himself for about a week.

Obviously with food/water/litter box. Let him/her get used to the surroundings and establish a "safe zone". There will be a LOT of curiousity between the rooms, but just let it. After a week, slowly integrate. Let new kitty out for a few hours at a time when you can be with them. Put new kitty back in the room when you aren't home. After a little while, they'll likely become buds. Easing into it helped my 2 become pals.

Since you violated the Lounge TOS by not posting a pic... I will:

2. Introduce them slowly.
Alot of cats don't take to a "stranger" right away. It's best to separate them if you can at first. I would take something of the new kitty's (a blanket) and put it in the OK's (Original Kitty) sleeping place. The reverse would be true of the OK and the new kitty. Let them see each other for a short amount of time at first, increasing the amount of time and the days go by.

Eventually, unless your OK is an "Alpha" cat, they should get used to each other just fine. They'll be buddies.

3. I'll echo what has already been said.
Just introduce them slowly, and keep the new one isolated for a week or two, and let him expand his territory slowly. It took about two weeks to integrate our most recent male, Charlie, but now he and his big brother, Tate, are buddies (lots of rambunctious play!).

Tate (top cat, of course) and Charlie:

4. That corner
That looks like a great place for their climby stand thing.

I remember that one of Charlie on the stairs I think, it's a beautiful picture!

6. Here's another from the "famous corner"
I titled this one:
"Dude. Everything is sooooooooooo orange."

Those windows are located in the corner of Mrs. Rat's office, so she gets to have lots of kitteh companions!

10. Put them on either side of a closed door. The new kitty will stick her
paws underneath to play (kittens can't help themselves but play all day) and the older one will not be able to resist. Keep them apart for a few days and when you finally allow them together they will get along because the older one will have forgotten she used to rule the roust.

14. Beat the new cat while the old cat looks on!
Just kidding, slow & steady as everyone else has suggested is always best. The cats will still have "disputes" from time to time but they will be buddies.
