1. Donnie Darko?
Edited on Tue May-13-08 12:00 AM by Chan790
It's a science movie and it's fiction, but I'm not sure it's sci-fi...it's more WTF.

3. Oliver Gruener's "Nemesis".
Absolutely one of the best bad SF B-movies ever made.
In a class by itself.

Richard

4. Hmm..
Trying to avoid the popular stuff, so...

If you want good sci-fi: Outland.

If you want a good story with terrible acting: They Live.

5. Gattaca? Blade Runner?
Probably seen both, right?

New Rose Hotel? From cyber-punk story by Gibson...strange but with Willem Dafoe, Asia Argento and Christopher Walken.

6. Sunshine
I don't know if it's on DVD yet, but it may be. It's a great sci-fi film from last year that I saw in France, and don't think was ever even released in the US (it's in English though). It was directed by Danny Boyle who did 28 Days Later and Trainspotting.

15. Do you know if it was ever in US theaters?
I was in the US for a few weeks last summer and had never heard of the movie, and then I saw it advertised when I was in France and saw it there. I asked a friend from Chicago who's a big sci-fi fan, and he'd never even heard of it. Maybe just a little too strange for US markets?

17. It came out briefly
Edited on Tue May-13-08 11:48 AM by Godhumor
Played at some art houses for a 2 week run, I believe.

On edit: I heard about it due to the trailers and reviews at the start of its run, so I am sure it played here.

10. Devil Girl From Mars
It's b&w, british, and kinda slow, but a good flick to relax to with a glass of wine. It turns the old "the Martians have come to steal our women" into "the beautiful, slightly dominatrix Martian women have come to steal our men". It's campy, but not on purpose, so it's fun.

Khash.

11. for Sci Fi
I'd go with Gattaca, most people over look this gem...I remember when it came out, and I thought it looked extremely stupid...

But I watched it last year, I believe, and was blown away....

My non-sci fi suggestion...The Boondock Saints.

19. A sci-fi comedy of sorts....the 1985..
UFOria...
with Cindy Williams/Harry Dean Stanton/Fred Ward

not to be confused with a later movie with a similar title.

Also, if you're up for a thrilling yet ultimately downer movie from 1988....
Miracle Mile
with Anthony Edwards and Mare Winingham

Edited on Tue May-13-08 12:46 PM by PassingFair
Not a perfect movie by any means
(Clare Danes :puke: )

BUT ....much more than I expected!

From the Neil Gaiman novel, with
a VERY funny performance by Robert DeNiro.
