stereo/computer peeps: are most aux audio in cables
universal?

I have a JBL iPod docking station that I can use with my laptop but I think I've thrown away the aux audio input cable that went with it. Would my local Radio Trash store carry such a cable?

1. Most times,

the "aux" in/out are RCA cable friendly (images: http://images.google.com/images?q=RCA%20plugs&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi)
and are pretty universal. Audio-only cables have 2-per-end, usually colored red and white. Should be easy to replace. :)

That's a cute little unit, but I bet ya hear that all the time. ;)

2. You just need to find out what kind of connection it is.
I'd guess it's probably RCA, but if it's made to use with a laptop, it might just be a basic 1/8th inch jack.

3. what dark tirade said
but be sure to get an 1/8" STEREO cable or you'll lose one channel.

4. What are you trying to do? Play the Ipod through your stereo?
or thru your computer? Or play the computer through your docking station?

I assume the docking station takes a standard mini 1/8" stereo jack?

5. I'm trying to play my laptop through this JBL system
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 04:14 PM by libnnc
I'd forgotten that I could do that and I started looking at the specs online and realized that I've lost the aux cable that came with it. And I can't remember what it looks like. There are three jacks on the back of the docking station (audio out, audio in, and what looks like a USB connection).

7. I'd guess you need a cable with 1/8" mini stereo plugs
at each end.

Plugged into the "audio out" on the laptop, and "audio in" on the docking station. The jacks on both machines look the same?

6. usually
Some things, like cell phones especially, can have really strangely sized cables for the audio in/out. Is it like an RCA cable (two ends that attach, each having a sort of prong with a ring around it), or is it one straight bit of metal with the lines on it? Those are usually 1/8, which is a standard size, but they can be weird funny sizes, like some cell phones have and a weird radio I once bought at a dollar store.
